• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

well first of you don't ----. If you're willing to try, there is a book out and also availbe on DVD called EVERY MANS BATTLE by Stephen Arteburn & Fred Stoeker. it' changed my husband if you are willing for change.
It's a powerful collection of promises and warnings, instructions and inspiration straight from the Bible to you-all designed to equip you to win the war against sexual temptation. You'll find easy to understand verses to encourage and challenge you in these key areas and more:
accepting God's loving authority, learning from the bible role models, using the supernatural weapons at your disposal, understanding the importance of accountability and discipline, comparing the world's views with God's wisdom, studying the owner's manual for sexual conduct, avoiding and overcome temptation, making a plan acording to God's Word, developing a heart that cherishes your wife or girlfrend and experience God's forgiveness when you fail

if you really want to quit you should check out the book like was mentioned or there are online courses you can take like www.settingcaptivesfree.com. Also you can get an online web filter or even better for 5 bucks a month a company will track your internet activity and have it emailed to somebody else. This gets around the flaws found in web filters. It's called Covenant Eyes and i think you can get to it from the setting captives free website.

The book "Every Man's Battle" is also availabe from Amazon as just a book. I have the Woman's version of it, because I suffer similarly, except I don't save any of the stuff because of shame.

First of all, pray and ask the Lord for help, and forgiveness. Then check out Settingcaptivesfree, and the book. Also, check out Harvestusa.org. That is a Christian agency that helps men with sexual addictions as well as homosexuals who desire to be released from the lifestyle.

God bless. God loves you, and holds you close. Remember David was the apple of His eye, and he still sinned with Bathsheeba.

if you're serious about this:
unplug your computer and erase everything and then give it to someone to keep. check your email at the library. get rid of any music or magazines or whatever that tempts you outside of the internet..by get rid of i mean burn or rip up, break your cds in half and shatter them. get a friend to keep you accountable daily, not just weekly or whatever. find bible verses that are against sexual sin and put them up all over the place!! first off: GET ON YOUR FACE! admit that you need Christ more than ever. ask for forgiveness and start all over. wipe the slate clean. i know it's hard...i've been there. but i haven't looked at that crud in about a year. it's possible to rid it from your life. i'm a living example of it. so, no excuses, ok?! Christ will help you if you ask him. bro, take it one day at a time!! just get thru a day without it. ok, that's done, now another day. oh, and if you HAVE to keep your computer, which is a really BAAAAAD idea, put verses on your desktop. i know it doesn't seem like much, but go for it.
God doesn't expect us to be perfect, but he DOES expect us to try. there's a website and it's an awesome site for people who are addicted to inappropriate content and such. dang it, i can't think of what it's called. uuum...sorry. but i'll try to figure it out and i'll let you know if i find it.
know that you don't suck! everyone struggles with something. everyone makes mistakes and we all fall short of the glory of God. ha...and he STILL loves us! how awesome is he?!

Decide,Act now, By faith stand strong, and REPENT, be strong take up the armor of God, Plead the power of the blood of Jesus over you mind, will, and emotions!!! Pray, pray, pray...how can there be any time to do anything else than to pray and commune with the Holy Spirit. Find someone at church that you can be accountable to. It is a discipline and a practice to "stay" hooked up with Jesus. Something about that name Jesus, that sets captives free, that loosens bonds, that breaks chains of bondage that hold you down. What are you doing for Christ? Are you using your testimonies to win the souls and set people free? Are you a laborer hot for Christ? I was was bound to addictive behavior in the past, hung out with non-believers and believers that got into all sorts of GOD-contrasting behaviors. It eventually rubbed off on me. Take off your coat(shed some attitudes, friends, and fellow believers that aren't with God 100%), take off something and put on God's courage to stay strong and mighty, it is only you that can take control and say no. It is our decisions to live for Christ, and not to additive behavior that contrasts Christ. Join up with a "inappropriate content-free" christian group that prays and fellowships, and believes in accountability. I am a living witness to the schemes of the devil. The enemy's ways are to keep us away from pray, other "on-fire" Christians, and the truth. The devil wants to keep you so much in the mire of the world, in guilt and self condemnation that you will be useless for Jesus. The enemy knows your strengths. The enemy wants to hold you back. JESUS once and for all paid the price. The ultimate price to set you free from captivity. Just remember those who "practice sin" do not have a place in the Kingdom. We all are going to be judged according to what we do in the body in secret and in the open. NOW WATCH WHAT YOU CONFESS. WATCH WHAT THOUGHTS YOU THINK OF. WAtCH THE THOUGHTS TURN TO ACTIONS...ARE THEY MANIFESTING GOD OR MAN? I love you bro!!! Stir the gift up with violence, do not let the devil have his way in you. Invest, practice, and pray God's gift in you will be used for His Glory and not your demise.

Like blackrain said, pray like crazy

I was the same as you not too long ago, I finally decided to stop a few months ago but i was never really getting much better then last Sunday night demons came into my room(it scared the hell out of me)... I was giving Satan a foothold in my life and it was terrible, well that kind of shocked me into doing something about it. So I talked to a good friend about it.

Here are some tips:

1)Delete all the inappropriate content on your PC, just close your eyes and hit delete :)

2)You can also get programs that block inappropriate content, get one and get a friend to set the password.

3)Use "bouncing" if you haven't heard of it, it's basically as soon as you see something that will tempt you look away instantly and make it a habit because often (with me anyway) as soon as I see something then I can't stop thinking about it.

4) If you do get tempted and can't stop thinking about it literally fall on your knees and pray out loud for God to help you, this really helps, praying out loud is much more powerful than in your head.

5)When you are thinking those impure thoughts you loose the holy spirit and then you must gain it back through prayer. Your body is supposed to be a temple of God, God can't remain in you're body when you are thinking those things and Satan literally is walking into the room with you.

6)Think of it this way, every time you do it it's like your hammering one of those nails into the cross and your letting Satan into you're life but every time you resist temptation Satan flees from your presence and can't stand to be near you.

It may take a long time to stop but never be discouraged Is.40:31"Those who hope in the lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles;"

Good luck:)

I'll be praying

Toleto, I'm not sure I can offer the best advice in the world. I know EXACTLY what you are going through, because I've been through the exact same things myself - and I mean that literally. The sad thing is, there are still times when I slide right back into the same old patterns, and so I know how hard it is to get past this. I just want you to know there is someone out there who totally relates to what you are saying, and as such, if you ever want to talk about it or simply want to tell someone what you are in the midst of doing, you are more than welcome to contact me and I will not judge you. I will listen to you, and if all you want to do is scream about how agonizing it is to resist the pleasure, I will simply listen. If you want someone to distract you, I can try to do that, too. Sometimes, believe it or not, that's all it takes - distraction. You literally force yourself to get involved in thinking about something else, and once you get engaged in that, you slowly lose your interest in looking at the inappropriate content, or hitting those websites. Deep down inside, you are craving interaction with people. You may not realize that, but it's true. By going to these websites all the time, it makes you feel as if you are connecting to the rest of the world in a way you wouldn't normally do otherwise. By spending so much time online, you're basically searching for an ultimate experience to surpass a previous one - whether it's an enticing new inappropriate content photo, or stimulating video - or perhaps just a new insight into something that you've never thought about, or read about, before. But in all reality, I can tell you from my own experience that such an ultimate experience never happens. In many ways, you are wanting to become informed about new things. That's not necessarily bad in and of itself. What makes it bad is how obsessive it becomes. Trust me when I say that the more you learn, the less you wish you knew. There are far too many different ideas out there, and once you expose yourself to so much, you become very confused.

I can't possibly judge you, but I can try to relate my own experiences to you, and maybe somehow tell you what I've done to find the strength to sometimes resist. Believe me, there IS victory over this. Sometimes it just comes in little bits and pieces. It's all a process. I will say this, however - Cybersitter and other programs work on the premise of locking out bad content. It gets filtered out, and the only way to access it is to deactivate it. The only way to deactivate it is by entering a master password - (I think other members have mentioned that). However, therein lies the problem with YOU being the only one that has access to your computer. You see, if YOU set the master password, that means YOU can re-enter it in order to deactivate the program. So it's basically self-defeating. The only way around that is to have someone else enter a master password, and then NEVER tell you what it is. That way you won't be able to bypass the program.

And one more thing before I hit the "Post Reply" button....Black Rain mentioned something that actually makes a lot of sense, and it made me think of something. You might be surprised at how well it works....take a permanent marker, and literally write out Bible verses on the plastic frame of your monitor, surrounding your screen. Make sure you also include writing the name of Jesus where it will prominantly face you as you are looking at the screen. It makes it a LOT harder, psychologically speaking, to look at something sinful while you can also see the name "Jesus" facing you.

If you want to contact me via email sometime, send me a PM and I can give you my email address that way. Chin up, young dude. You're not alone.
