I do believe it, and I know it. That is why I said seek God's will first, and judge yourself to determine if your "faithful, desperate" prayer is because of your own want/will, out of fear, or if it is God's will. Job was very faithful, and a holy man of God. He prayed for the well-being and safety of his children before the left for a party on that fateful day, yet they still died. Even though it was not Job's will for any of his children to perish (or to lose any of his wealth, health, or friends,) God's will trumped Job's will. Likewise, many prophets and men of God desperately prayed for ways out of situations - many times in the most extreme form (death by God.) Yet, God had other plans. There are cases when faithful prayers do prevent calamity. When Jonah told the Ninevites that God was going to judge them, they humbled themselves, lamented and prayed to God. God spared Nineveh. I believe that faithful men/women of God have the power to plead their case to God in preventing a calamity, but it doesn't mean that is God's will. I said if you are God's child, it won't matter if a category 5 hurricane occurs, He will protect you and provide for you. I also stated the CAVEAT that He may try you, meaning some of your family members may experience calamity (in the form of loss of wealth, health, life, or metal anguish...) His plan may be for you to die, or to lose your wealth, etc. You, in that sentence, was a third-person inclusive pronoun meaning God may try "all of you/us." Moreover, I prefaced the statement by stating to pray for God's will. That is the main thing it is about.
