Wesley's Parish Fellowship ASA Thread (8)

Congrats on the family wedding! What's new, umm not much. I recently moved, so am glad to be in a place that's not falling down, count your blessings eh! I've started the process for candidating for ordained ministry with the Methodist Church, so busy with all of the forms.

Considering checking out the Methodist Church

Oooh, what interesting heritage. John Nance was indeed a Cornish man living in St Ives, a major port town right down a long from anywhere. Wesley had quite a long journey down there, even today it's a long way. At the end of August 1743 (so quite early in Methodism), the John Wesley (and others)...

    Tell us something about yourself.

Some of us know a little bit about one another, but we probably don't know each other well. For those who are a bit apprehensive about put out personal information on the internet, I suggest that no one posts their real name or city. But tell us something else about yourself: 1. Are you...

Should Star-Spangled Banner be in church?

In churches, I've only ever seen the Union Flag when it's been a part of another flag (military ensign/uniformed organisation on parade Sunday). I don't think I've ever seen just a Union Flag.

    Red flags in dating relationships.

She wants to move really quickly (no I'm not a commitment phobe, after 3 months she was complaining that we weren't engaged). She'd found someone who her parents liked and with their approval just wanted to be the youngest person from her home context to get married to be able to say that, not...

    Sunday School/Discipleship

I go to a Bible Study, and am part of a Network called 'Inspire'. This is a recent set-up which is emphasising a return to early wesleyan small group spirituality. How does adult Sunday School work, I don't know any churches that do this?

    Liberal Methodist university/college of theology

I don't know the name of the establishment, haven't come across it. Methodism's a fairly broad movement, so contains a mix of liberal, conservative, moderate, sacramental, charismatic, evangelical etc...

    Amplified Bible...

Yeah that's the one. It was authorised by Svenska Kyrkan in 1999/2000 I think, although I'm in the middle of moving and it's boxed up so I can't check my copy. Thanks for your thoughts.

A question about "Hell" as taught in Judaism

Who was the greatest Christian ever?

Johnny Cash is someone I find particularly inspirational right now. A few months back I would have said St Martin of Tours. Both really understood something at the core of what it was to be a follower of Christ, and recognised and relied the grace of God with regard to their own failings.

    Amplified Bible...

If it works for you then yeah go for it. For English language Bibles, I prefer to use the NRSV. You can help me, assuming you're familiar with it, what are your thoughts on the Bibeln 2000. It's the only one the bookshop had when I went so didn't have much choice.
