Macron doubles down on possible NATO deployment in Ukraine ahead of talks to bridge rift with Germany

  • We cannot exclude options,” French President Emmanuel Macron said in an interview, when asked to revisit his controversial comments about the potential deployment of Western troops into Ukraine.
  • “The security of Europe and the security of the French people is at stake here,” he added.
French President Emmanuel Macron has doubled down on the possibility of sending troops into Ukraine, a day before a key summit with Germany, which is staunchly opposed to the idea.

“We cannot exclude options,” Macron said in a joint interview with TF1 and France 2 TV on Thursday, when asked to revisit controversial comments made in late February. At the time, the French leader refused to rule out the prospective deployment of Western troops into Ukrainian territory — resulting in scorn from Russia and a backlash from Macron’s NATO allies.

“What we are doing is giving ourselves red lines,” the French president continued Thursday, in comments translated by CNBC, noting that the international community has placed “too many limits in our vocabulary” regarding the war.

(He's gonna get Paris nuked one of these days. Poking the Bear is not a good idea. All it will take is one little slip to make the war spill over into NATO Europe, and I believe it's only Gods Almighty restraining hand of power that keeps this from happening....so far. If the Sovereign LORD decides "enough" then the powers of darkness will have their way to destroy, and the nations they rule over shall proceed with wasting destruction)

A bit of political situation. The traditional leading countries in politics and defense in the EU (France, Germany) were hesitant and weak and this position of leader was taken up by Poland, lately.

The French president tries to take the position back, with his rhetoric. So take it with a grain of salt.

Is he wrong?

Is Macron wrong to suggest sending NATO troops to Ukraine? Absolutely. First, Ukraine is not NATO. Second, there was all kind of corruption in Ukraine. Thirdly, the West has been trying to expand into former Russian territory. Fourth, the West had infected Ukraine with the abomination of the LGBTQ agenda, of which in November 2022 there were 35% of Ukrainians favored same sex marriage.

In March 2022 Putin said this, and had he added some scripture, could have been a preacher!

(Speaking of the West)

"Properly speaking, the attempts to use us in their own interests never ceased until quite recently: they sought to destroy our traditional values and force on us their false values that would erode us, our people from within, the attitudes they have been aggressively imposing on their countries, attitudes that are directly leading to degradation and degeneration, because they are contrary to human nature. This is not going to happen. No one has ever succeeded in doing this, nor will they succeed now."

Amen!

Now, is HE wrong?

Furthermore, Ukraine has always been fought over, fought in, or a place of utter chaos, but has predominantly been a part of Russia in one way or another for hundreds of years. "About 878 Igor advanced along the Dnieper River from Novgorod and made Kiev capital of the Varangarian–Russian principality. As the oldest established city it is known as 'the mother of Russian cities' and also 'the Jerusalem of Russia' as the first centre of the Greek Orthodox Church in Russia."

This is just the traditional French policy of 'strategic ambiguity'.

In terms of national defense, since the end of WW2 the French have maintained a policy where they are very reluctant to officially rule anything in or out. This way they're not tied down to specific action-reaction strategic chains and they keep potential opponents uncertain about their intentions.

To quote from The International Centre for Defence and Security (Words Matter, but Deeds Matter Even More: When French Strategic Thought Inspires and Then Falls Flat - ICDS)
"President Macron’s thoughts echo the long-standing tradition in French strategic culture to maintain deliberate ambiguity about the circumstances when France could resort to nuclear weapons. This ambiguity is designed to paralyse the adversary, who would struggle to play out all possible scenarios and chart a favourable course of action that avoids the risk of a devastating response from Paris. President Macron simply extended this sound logic, if not the nuclear means behind it, to the conventional war in Ukraine – and seems to have triggered alarm bells in Moscow, given that Putin felt it necessary to counter with his own nuclear saber rattling."

Also, Macron is not suggesting sending 'NATO' troops into Ukraine. He's just not going to commit to ruling it out (or in).

And yes, Putin is very wrong. Very, very wrong. Both on the history of Russia/Ukraine and on attitudes about human rights and Western values.

Why all this Putin/Russian propaganda? The only thing that matters is that Ukraine was invaded by Russia and Ukraine has no interest in being a part of Russia.

Western Ukraine has no interest in being part of Russia. Many in eastern Ukraine did or do. And that's almost like saying Texas has no interest in being a part of USA (sometimes). Or look what happened with the Confederate states of America. Why does NATO insist on doing exactly what the Communists were accused of doing, and poking the Bear by ever encroaching? If you recall, the Soviets did not try to put nuclear missiles in Cuba until after the US deployed nuclear armed Jupiter missiles in Turkey and Italy, which were perceived as threatening, and rightfully so.

Why am I being called a Soviet propagandist? I got kicked off the Kremlin website for 2 weeks some years back for suggesting Russia loosen up on religious persecution of Christians, because Christians make good citizens.

The voting didn't agree with that, and the "voting" done under Russian occupation via barrel of a gun doesn't exactly make for a convincing one either.

NATO isn't encroaching and Russia had previously agreed with NATO that third party nations were free to join NATO or join Russia in a military alliance if they saw this was best for their national defense.

Probably because you post almost exclusively russian propaganda.
I got kicked off the Kremlin website for 2 weeks some years back for suggesting Russia loosen up on religious persecution of Christians, because Christians make good citizens.
I'm sure they treat you nicer now, considering your good work on this site.

LOL !

Well, I must confess, I DO have a Russian hat somewhere in my house that's very warm in winter!
View attachment 344215 < NOT me, that's from an ad...
That's not a "russian hat" (which is actually called an Ushanka), but the general slavic variant. In Russia, wearing the ear flaps down is seen as unmanly, so they are sown to the hat in the "up" position and just a decorative element.

I know, but I bought mine like 20 years ago and wore the flaps down for the cold! Besides, I'm not in Russia, though I lived around a lot of Russians back then.

However. these Russian Police didn't think it was unmanly when it got really cold in Moscow!

"Ear flaps down, Comrade...Da?"

So Putin sending troops to invade a sovereign country is OK, but France threatening to send troops to protect a sovereign country isn't?

What a bizarre logic to have. The only person "poking the bear" here is Putin. He's gonna get Moscow nuked one of these days.

I consider Ukraine a part of Russia.

Moscow probably will get nuked one of these days, but so will Washington.

Put perhaps the LORD Yahweh Himself shall send fire from heaven?

Ezekiel 39:6 - "And I will send a fire on Magog, and among them that dwell carelessly in the isles: and they shall know that I am the Lord."
