I find most Christian Rock to be dull.

Worship music is amazing, nothing like it. I enjoy some Christian Rap when my mind needs to be fed.

Just because it's labeled "Christian" doesn't mean it's any different than secular music. It's about the content in the music. Christian Rock is too similar in content to secular music for me to take it seriously.

To each his own, though, but I refuse to listen to Christian Rock for what it represents.

Overall, I enjoy secular music thoroughly, and it so happens that secular music is more powerful/beneficial for the mind than Christian Rock.

My time frame for music is the late 60s and 70s,there are no Christian bands who can compare or who are even similar to bands like Jethro Tull,Genesis,Yes etc ,these bands were about music first and as a result created some excellent music,Christian bands/artist forget that you had better be excellent, creative and an innovator at what you do if you are going to advertise your faith in any particular arena of life, otherwise just tell people about Jesus and live your life as an example to them.

Whatever floats your boat. I listen to Johnny Cash, Hank Williams and Elvis in the gospel dep't, and 60s classic rock, some modern rock, some French music and loads of Merseybeat. I was weaned on the Beatles and remain til this day a massive fan.

I can enjoy some Christian rap and I do like Christian rock quite a bit. Most CCM makes me cringe. I love secular music though. My music taste ranges from pop like Owl City and Tegan & Sara, to metal like (newer) Kamelot and (newer) Arch Enemy.

What most of you consider Christian music, I consider Christian themed secular music. To me, the opposite of secular music is sacred music, and the definition of what constitutes sacred music is very narrow (i.e. it must be worthy of being included in the liturgy). Literally, over 99% of what you hear on Christian radio stations isn't what I consider sacred music, whatever rock music praise band stuff many of you prefer in your churches, and even what some of you have in your hymnals. Secular music is a very broad category, and there is a lot of secular music that is just fine for Christians to listen to, the lyrics (if they exist) being benign and not anti-Christ.

I listen to both contemporary Christian (Casting Crowns, Hillsong, etc) and secular music. I like classic rock and 80s and 90s pop the best. I like uplifting, energetic music, nothing dark and angry. To me the important thing is the overall message of the song.

Same for me if one includes presenting the message well. I'm not going to like a song that butchers a good message.

It seems to me that this is NOT the approach of many in the pulpit. They fail to see the message of the song at all and sometimes seem to only be looking for something to hate.

Suicide Solution is a pretty good example. They see the title and that is enough. It must be bad. Never mind that the title refers to hard booze as a chemical solution and the song was written because a close friend was drinking himself to death. Oops an anti booze song condemned because it was never listened to.

I've heard Stairway to Heaven. Blasted because the preacher took the second line out of context and decided the song said you could buy the stairway to Heaven. As if the opening line 'There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold' isn't enough to make the listener aware that everything this lady thinks is garbage. Or am I older than I thought and no one under 60 has heard the saying 'not all that glitters is gold'? Still one cannot escape the echoes of that old saying. At least not those who read at all. 'All that is gold does not glitter, not all who wander are lost.' is still rather well known.

Tolkien!

I agree that rejecting a song based on its title alone, or one line taken out of context, is silly.

I used to attend a church that had a very active music team that consisted of mostly high school and college students. They were talented musicians who really loved to perform. The elder board of the church (which was, unsurprisingly, full of senior citizens) preferred more traditional music, so they got rid of the contemporary Christian music and insisted on only hymns.

When young people switched to other churches, the Elder Board was alarmed, because there was a significant decrease in tithing. It was a foolish move on their part, and it literally cost them money.

I'm an atheist but I like gospel music, and quite a few classical religious pieces (doesn't that qualify as Christian music?)

Here's the greatest gospel singer of all time:

The video and audio are slightly off, but this is one of my all-time favorites. It's just a knock-out beautiful piece of music. (And Katherine Jenkins is a knock-out herself. :amen:)

I find most Christian Rock to be dull.

I find that the good Christian rock bands are pretty much unheard of. I have a big issue with Christian radio stations these days for that exact reason. They only play the bland music from 10 years ago.
