Ok there is nothing to see here ... ok so this is the point that I have come to recently, some people in the world can't even see, blind due to environmental factors, factors which can be mitigated, many could be given sight back through simple operations. So these people could never play a computer game, without an operation, which many of them will never get.

My quandary as a casual gammer, is should I buy that $60 game, or give three people back their sight through donating to a charity helping the blind.

1Ti 6:17-18 Command those who are rich in the things of this life not to be proud, but to place their hope, not in such an uncertain thing as riches, but in God, who generously gives us everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share with others.

Now this is a bit heavy for a gammer, but I am now putting on the teaching hat. Note the scripture above God commands us rich bunnies, to a) acknowledge that yes God gives us everything to enjoy, but b) we must seriously consider the poor and needy who may not enjoy what we do.

So my internal challenge was, I play my games that I have, maybe buy one every six months, may be none at all. And give my spending money to the needy.

I see it this way, every $60 I spend on a game, is 3 people I failed to give sight back to. Can I live with that?

For the die hard gammer's out there, if you can't kick the habit, at least try giving as much to the poor as you spend on games. If you buy a $60 game give $60 to the poor.

For me I am saying, I will try to not buy a game again, just use my old ones, so I can help the needy.

Just consider, what about the people who can't even see to play a game.

I think this is a good sentiment, because our money is used most efficiently when it is donated to certain causes. Your post certainly shows how crazy our perspective is on the value and usage of money.

That being said, I'd rather sacrifice eating out, drinking coffee, travelling, driving, etc. than gaming. When you get 900 hours out of a 60 dollar game, it's a pretty good deal. When you spend 60 dollars on a dinner, it's essentially gone.

In theory, it would be nice if we could sacrifice all of these things in order to help the needy. Maybe it's possible to gradually make these sacrifices over time. It's something that's interesting to think about.

Yeah, I think this is true. God is not a pressure pot of wrath. But like you say, maybe people could sacrifice something else, like a trip to macca's.

For me however I know that unless I made the decision in the now, firmly, it will soon be forgotten.

To get supper biblical, a component of fasting in the bible was to give your bread to the hungry, and needy. As an example, Skip a meal and give it to the poor. Our modern day example may be, to skip buying a game, or skip that expensive eat out. Or sign up for something like child sponsorship, or a monthly gift to the poor.

Isa 58:5-7 Is such the fast that I have chosen? the day for a man to afflict his soul? Is it to bow down his head as a rush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? wilt thou call this a fast, and an acceptable day to Jehovah? Is not this the fast that I have chosen... Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?

I have heard of one Christian couple that were getting married and rather than buy an expensive ring, they gave the money to the poor.

Then there is a super amazing woman who sold all of her houses and used the money to help the needy, went to Bosnia and worked among Muslim war refugees, when the people saw the sacrifices this woman made, and her Christian love, they became Christians. Last thing I hear she was now working for the UN.

For me I wasted money on games, consoles, xbox gold accounts, xbox points (money), upgrades for the pc to play games...etc. Looking back I kind of regret all the waste. However I still have always been good with my money. I don't like to waste it, even more as an adult. Its why when a new game comes out I want I just wait until its bargain bin princes (like $5). Which is why I love Steam.

Now there are some who love other worldly things such as clothes or food for example. To me those are a bigger waste of money. I'd rather spend money on something that I can get alot out of. For example there is a game called Borderlands (the first one). At the time I could have made the choice to spend my money on it when it came out or some snacks, a movie and so on. But I bought the game instead. Why? Because the food, movie...etc is maybe 3 hours with of stuff. The game is almost endless. By the time I got rid of the game I had played it over 1300 hours. Yes you seen that right, about 54 days straight worth of gaming. Not literally straight of course lol. So that was a $60 well spent. This is why I prefer games like RPGs that are open world. Such as Fallout 4.

Back to the topic at hand I'm definitely more of the meek and poor instead of the rich and proud. So I don't have alot to begin with and I've learned to be ok with whatever I have.

I definitely understand of course when people are well off that there are many of times they could have spent the money helping someone, maybe giving it to their church...etc. I prefer helping people in general more then I do getting anything for myself. Something more christian games should do. At least when their older since when your younger your tend not to understand things as well as an adult.

:)

Back when I owned my xbox 360 I never bought games on launch but waited for a bargain price. Never wanted to waste any money.
When I bought my wii u I lost interest in my xbox and sold everything I got. Nintendo games made me feel better I quickly bought myself a 2ds. Unfortunately games very rarely drop in price and I got used to pay full price, very often on day one.
I cant say this is the way to go, but for me I learnt the lesson that it might better to spend more on something that is really fun and worth my time, then pay less for something that isnt really good. Not saying, that nintendo games are the games christians should play (far from it) but compared to the general offerings I think they are the best deal, even though they are quite pricy.
