That's what the Mormons I grew up with used to say to deny the significance of Christ's work on the cross. They believed that nothing important happened on the cross, that Christ's sacrifice all happened before, in the garden of Gethsemane. We were forbidden to wear crosses around our necks. Also, the verse is completely out of context and I think the jewelry is very beautiful and inspiring.
