You always can recuse yourself from things that either you're heavily involved in (say a thread) or you feel biased about something/someone. Sometimes it can work to your advantage though, you can bring a different opinion to the table about someone that you know fairly well, or their posting style even if you recuse yourself from the situation.

Hey I think we all get a crash course from God. No journey is perfect! I haven't seen you around too long, but can tell you would be great on staff. I've worked there off and on for at least half of the 10 years I've been here.
It's different than you might think. A lot of it wasn't counseling others, but very mechanical. You vote on a report and to close them out, most mods copy and paste a response if giving a warning or whatever. It might have changed in the few years since I was last on the team. But if you think working with people is more your thing, I would suggest other teams like ambassador or prayer team.

Great!! My one word of advice is don't let it get too complicated. You might be excited and try to rush through the training, but make sure you take your time and go at your own speed. It might seem a tad complicated at first (depending on if you know your way around forums), but it gets easier.
