I am very familiar with the prophetic ministry and believe that God has appointed some in the church to be prophets, apostles, evangelists pastors and teachers. I believe that some have the gift of prophecy. I believe that the Gifts of the Spirit are for today. That being said, I have a question/dilemma whatever you want to call it.

At my church, there is a lady who goes around praying for people, she always has a word for them. The first time she spoke a word at intercessory prayer, the person in charge said she was out of order (even though she spoke correctly) because the she spoke about something that the pastor was going to announce before he had the opportunity to speak about it.
After prayer, she ran over to me with her anointing oil and said "God told me to pray for you. I have a word for you" and grabbed my shoulders and proceeded to open her oil. I politely stopped her because I was taught that (1) you are supposed to introduce yourself to someone first, and (2) Ask if you can pray for them and (3) ask if you can lay hands on them. (3) If you are not a minister in the church, you might be out of order. I did not allow her to pray for me because something about her spirit bothered me. She would not look me in the eye for a long time after that. (I'm going somewhere with this and really want some input)
Last Sunday, I was sitting by myself and when she walked by i said "hi" to her, being friendly (big mistake) She came over to me and said "I have been talking to God about you" and she proceeded to tell me about some stuff from my past and so on...I was half listening because the stuff she was talking about has been long dealt with. It didn't need to be brought up. I just looked at her, no response. I really was sorry I spoke to her. I could have got up and walked away but did not want to be rude. So I said thank you, I receive that "(mistake #2).
Later at night, in my sleep, I got attacked in my spirit. It was like something was tearing at my spirit, I had a vision of words and an ark with a hole in it and it was like words were being pulled out of me but something was tearing at me. I could not see the words, they were small. I am a writer. I was breathing fast and it was like being in a tornado and all i could do was be still and let it pass. I was exhausted afterwards. I really feel it had something to do with this lady.
I do have a prayer life, maybe I need to pray more. But this woman bothers me in my spirit. She says she has been trained by some big-name prophets (she named them) but I have been around prophets and they don't bother me in my spirit. Even those who have "arrogant" personalities don't bother me spiritually. But this woman...I don't know if I should talk to the pastor or not.
At prayer, Pastor told everyone to be silent for 30 minutes and meditate on the Lord, read the Word, or journal. 15 minutes had not passed before this lady had to run to the pastor's office to talk to him. I thought silence was for everyone...
What should I do? Sorry this has been so long.
Thank you,
Bithia2

There are many RED FLAGS in this person. she may be very immature, if this is her gift? I would be polite but excuse myself if she has a word or wants to anoint you. I would pray and include others in praying for her, maybe even asked her for a meeting where she would be prayed for. This may reveal the spirit behind her perceived prophetic gift. iI've known persons like this whom churches followed blindly, and later discovered they were false, that have done great harm to ministries, and individuals. A familiar spirit, who are eternal, can know things about your past, and predict things about your future simply by knowing your patterns of behavior.

I want to encourage you that your feelings are accurate. Submission and authority within the context of the local church body is very important in order for the Body of Christ to operate on earth. That being the case, the enemy works tirelessly to thwart it, and in much the same way as you have described.

Whenever you submit yourself to someone else, you give that person authority to speak into, over, and about you in the spiritual realms.

It's a stewardship. What are Christians exhorted to do? The Book of Proverbs says that death and life are in the power of the tongue. That means that people can speak life (positively) over others or they can speak death (negatively) over them.

Jesus said to bless even our enemies, how much more are we to bless the brethren? But sadly, often times people pray things that are not lined up with God's will for the brethren which is to speak life, speak positively, speak blessings upon one another with the authority they have in the spiritual realms.

God will not honor those prayers, but the enemy will jump all over them. This is where the spiritual attack you experienced takes place. You gave this woman a measure of authority over you and your life, and she abused it.

God does have a plan set in place for people who do this, and that plan is seen in the rest of that scripture in Proverbs:

Proverbs 18:21
21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

Those who "love" to use their tongue, will reap whatever they've sown with it. The problem is that sometimes people in need of deliverance ministry don't always connect the dots on how they reap what they've sown. The enemy blinds them and they continue on without learning the lesson.

Church bodies should be healthy and safe places for Christians to grow and be equipped and encouraged to face the battles against the world and the enemy. What this woman is doing is a clear example of abusing spiritual authority to suit their soulish desires.

This is why Paul said, "Have nothing to do with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them."

Ephesians 5:6-14
6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of such things God’s wrath comes on those who are disobedient. 7 Therefore do not be partners with them.

8 For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) 10 and find out what pleases the Lord. 11 Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. 12 It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. 13 But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light. 14 This is why it is said:

“Wake up, sleeper,
rise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.”

These people are using the spiritual authority they have for darkness, not light. They are being disobedient in their stewardship.

The solution to avoid such spiritual attacks from this woman's prayers is to simply declare (out loud) that you retract all authority from this person and they do not have your permission to speak into your life or pray over or about you in the spiritual. Recognize by faith that God will honor your request and the attacks will stop. Her ministry is not lined up with God, and so your prayer is clearly lined up with God's will. Be polite but curt whenever you encounter her. If she tries to push ministry on you, politely decline. And remember, you have taken away all authority she has over you so she cannot attack you any more in the spiritual.

Also, yes, I believe you should go to the leadership regarding this because they have obviously recognized that she is not conducting herself in line with Biblical ministry standards.

This is not the kind of thing for a Matthew 18 solution because teachings like those are with the understanding that they're taking place in authentic community where there are deep, legitimate, caring relationships.

What we have in the modern church is kind of like a "drive-through, fast-food" model of relationship, which is very shallow and will never bring about the kind of vision God has for His Kingdom.

Prophetic ministry should come forth through people you are in real relationship with, not strangers who flit by and think they've got a word for you.

Sadly, too many people actually seek that kind of prophetic ministry, which only encourages those people to continue doing it.

As far as the supernatural nature of her utterances goes, do not presume it's from the Holy Spirit. The enemy watches intently what goes on in church bodies. He will use his foul spiritual minions to go around and share information in an attempt to legitimize what these people are doing in the eyes of others.

Jesus said that you would know a true prophet by their fruit. Her bringing up accusations related to things from your past that are under the blood of Jesus is bad fruit. That's something the enemy would do, not God. Moreover, her demeanor clearly lacks the fruit of the Holy Spirit.

I hope this was helpful. If so, praise God!

Agree with BeStill&Know. There are MANY red flags. It doesn't matter who trained her. Prophetic words need to be stated with the pastor and leadership watching and hearing her. It doesn't matter how much influence including finances she has in that congregation, she needs to be dealt with by the pastor and leadership asap - If you're leadership, Yahweh will tell you how - Emphasize that nothing is done until clear direction from Yahweh is known.

Don't know what the vision represents but know that you can ask Yahweh to tell you how you've opened up to this and then repent. Sorry these types of experiences happen - a real learning experience.

Thank you so much! I did pray about those things and will continue to do so. This was very sound and encouraging. Extremely helpful and uplifting. As I said, I believe in the prophesying but not "Phophelying". Blessings!

KJV PSALMS 103:12 As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.
Philippians 4:8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: 4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
Ephesians 4: 29 Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.
30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
Verse 11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:

Prophets have a very tender heart, full of compassion, Love and mercy for they see many things; that which, non prophets do not and it is usually future warnings and blessings, not ones PAST forgiven sin or rebellious heart.
Prophets are exclusively trained by The Holy Spirit and are moved by The Tender Kind Love Of Christ. Although the warning may be
Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
It is for the receivers growth and Well being as they are healed and strengthened, after they search themselves in prayer worship praise and repentance if need be..either way it has to come to pass that which was said in a warning.
Pray always to the Lord 1John 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
Matthew 7:15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.
God Warns and Leads, pray And ask.. I would ask her what is her name and see what comes out of her mouth..
Love is the motivation, encouragement to the receiver even if it is a personal (need stop behaviour ) warning of someone or thing to come your way ..Jesus warned Peter Luke 22:31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: 32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.
Either way you can grow from this... Use it for the Glory Of God and His Kingdom!
Past forgiven sin of any kind need not be brought to light unless GOD moves one to share how HE delivered them and how they grew and learned from it thus, used encourage another, never to identify themselves to make friends in a worldly sense.. There should always be a tenderness, a shame, a repentant spirit and JOY on how God delivered.. To encourage for scripture teaches Ephesians 5:12 For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.
Seeking and growing is the best God's faithful Children do in Love!

Well , don't judge her! She was trying to help you. It's not her who is attacking you in your sleep...its always Satan. Our enemies are not one another ...its only Satan. You probably hurt her feelings, and brought her down. The first commandment is to love one another. Now, I am guilty of doing the exact same things you are...I have done them yes. But I know why that's the greatest commandment now...because if you're walking in love ...you cant sin. :). Don't worry about rules...if someone has a word for you listen. It won't hurt to hear. Be kind. She loves Jesus, she works at church. Don't you know God is bigger than Satan...if you're operating in love ...Satan can't come near you. I can share this because I was guilty doing things you have, and that's how I know this is how we should act...bc the Bible does say it ya know :)

I don't think she's judging her. I think she has a genuine concern here. We are to know them that labor among us and admonish us in the faith. The Bible also says that open rebuke is better than secret love. Over and over we are admonished to correct each other in love & submit to one another. Even God corrects us in love. It says He chastens those He loves. So there is more than one side to walking in love. At times, love IS correction.

I disagree with you stating that it won't hurt to hear. We are to keep a guard over our ear gates. Our words have power... whether they are positive or negative. If she's speaking in error then those words can in fact hurt someone or even leave them with a distorted view of God (something far more dangerous than hurt). So we have to be careful who we receive from and guard our hearts diligently as Scripture teaches us to.

It's also important not to come into agreement with a "word" that's not from God. There is power in our agreement (hence, why we say Amen & are instructed to touch & agree in prayer). How can two walk together (be in unity) except they be in agreement? When we come into agreement with something, we are opening up our spirit to it and uniting with it which is probably why she was attacked in her sleep. She came into agreement (or unity) with whatever spirit this lady is operating in by receiving the words she spoke and that spirit manifested during her sleep. That's why we have to let all things be done DECENTLY and in ORDER in the church even when it comes to prophesying because there is an exchange that occurs when we fellowship in this way. Remember, whatever is born of the Spirit is Spirit, but whatever is born of flesh is FLESH. We can reproduce in someone else whatever spirit we are operating in when we make a spiritual exchange like this.

That being said, I'm not saying the woman is a false prophet or not saved. However, there is something to be said about her unwillingness to submit (rebellion?, pride?). We are to try the spirits by the Spirit to see if it is of God. She may simply be moving out of season (out of God's timing) or may have been taught incorrectly. Whatever the case, leadership needs to correct this problem before it spreads throughout the rest of the church then everyone is out of line. Every time she speaks to someone in this way she is planting a seed. If that seed isn't the Word of God, then there is a problem. She sounds like she's sowing more discord than anything which God's Word declares as an abomination (that should show how serious her actions are right there)....

Bithiah, I pray the Holy Spirit works this out in your church by uniting you all as one in the faith through the Spirit of unity and that you all let brotherly love continue in your midst in Jesus' name.

Blessings

I never said anything to the lady other than stop her the first time she came at me with the oil and proceeded to lay hands on me, and i was very quiet with it. i didn't even know her name and she had already been corrected by the leader of intercessory prayer for speaking out of turn, talking about something that only the pastor was supposed to address.
2. I never called her my enemy.
3. She doesn't work at the church, she is a bench member, no formal position has been given to her.
4. Just because somebody says they have a "word" does not mean I have to listen to it. and I am very particular as to who speaks over me, and I don't let everyone lay hands on me. There are people in the church who are appointed to do that and everyone already knows who they are.
5. Thanks for reading.

Blessings

Why hasn't leadership made her sit down?[/QUOTE

There is nothing for her to sit down from. she doesn't have a "position" in the church. she just sits in the pews and goes around saying she has a word for people. i am still waiting to speak with pastor about this.

Think what she means by "made her sit down" means that the poster recognizes that this person is operating in a counterfeit way within the church and it needs to cease. Among other things, she is using others to accomplish her agenda and is demanding attention. She's doesn't seem to have leadership oversight and is having an impact on the congregation. Submission to leadership is one thing that is needed. Perhaps leadership is unaware of her actions or they don't realize what they're dealing. Or if she's being tolerated, that's even more of a problem.

Can't emphasis enough for those in leadership to get clarity from Yahweh before proceeding. You can pray for them for wisdom, counsel, understanding, and knowledge.

Update:
The lady has been told to stop by the pastors. She is not a minister or lay minister in the church and has not been appointed to do that type of ministry. Beside that it is known that she has a lot of mental/emotional issues and needs help. She is welcome to come to any church service but is not to speak over anyone. She still comes and sits in the back, but at this time has not been trying to prophesy over people. There have been others who have been affected in negative ways by her actions. Thank you for your input and God bless!

btw, I'm not discounting the manifestations of the spiritual gifts. Also, she probably loves The Lord. She needs to learn how to properly operate in those gifts - as do we all.
true. so for now she has been told to cease and desist.

All of the above!

Nothing in times past are gone without the Lord.
You were attacked in the spirit, and so you don't have the Lord.
You were punished for refusing her.
Do not hate good, and do not hate rejoicing.
When you said "I receive it" you called a bunch of evil against you,
because you received the evil of your past, to dine with it.

You must carry your heart strongly toward the Lord seeking forgiveness.
Love him, until you find favor of him, praising, and thanking, and when he chooses to dwell in you,
you're all good.

This is because God finds favor of men, only from their hearts, and words only testify, but it's in the heart.
