I just got Wounded by Love, and I couldn't resist peeking inside. Now I can't WAIT to read it - something very profound, and it also fits perfectly with where I was in my prayers a week ago.

Maybe I don't "have to" wait to read it, but I'm trying to be disciplined and stick to one of each general category of book at a time - which is still reading three at once.

Anyway - I can't wait. I really might have to read the rest of that one chapter at least ...

Loved that book. I should read it again sometime.

You gotta admit---Virginia Madsen made one smokin' cute Irulan!

Interestingly this quote, from the 1984 film, does not appear in the original novel. I would be in stitches however had you quoted the Princess Irulan.

Awesome let me know how it is please. I have Counsels from Holy Mountain, haven't made it through the whole book yet, however so far I like it. I don't get the hate Elder Ephraim get by some, especially online.

Will do. :)

It will be a little while. My SF confirmed my desire to have a little discipline (he recognizes I think that this is one of my weakest areas!) and instructed me to read no more than 3 books at once - they are 3 different "types". But on the other hand, the one that I'm about 80% through that will open a place for Wounded By Love, that I've been working on for a while now, I just found out he plans to have me re-read later, so I will finish more quickly and stop trying to understand and absorb EVERYthing it presents, some of which is a bit beyond me right now. ;)

I have that and his bio of Elder Joseph. Both are amazing. And having been to three of his monasteries and having met him, I can say let the haters hate. They hated St Nektarios too

I hope to read all of those someday.

Interesting you should say that. I will add something. When I finally found someone willing to act as a guide for me in these things, I looked him up online. And I found some things written that were very critical. I almost had second thoughts about accepting his help. But I decided (since I'd been trying to find someone, unsuccessfully, and I was seriously in need of guidance) to give it a try and reserve judgement for a while.

I'm glad I did. While I love my parish priest, and his guidance is invaluable, for more difficult issues I have found Fr. C to be wonderful in helping me see the balance between humility and holiness to aim for in trying to walk through these things that are more difficult for me, as well as knowing when to pull back, when to push me forward, and - I could go on and on. He's great, and I have yet to meet the man in person.

But I was troubled when I read the criticism online, and I found nowhere at all that he ever tried to defend himself or his reputation, or explain anything.

I thank God that I didn't let that stop me though. I'm sure I'd be in a very different place spiritually right now, and probably it would spilled into other areas of my life that have been difficult in the meantime. But thank God that has not happened.

I think you're right. "Haters gonna hate."

okay on politics, does anyone disagree Trump will be the GOP nominee? Again im not his biggest fan, however I realizied anytime the media or other politicans push back against him he surges in the polls. I never seen anything like it in my lifetime, a rich gazillioniare running as a populist, saying over the top stuff but he might be president. What y'all opinions? I'm not voting this year btw.

I have to confess I wish a knowledgeable EO member would checkride my heresiological posts in Controversial Theology to ensure they are dogmatically correct and broadly acceptable on a pan-Orthodox basis.
Your replies in the one thread I was posting on with you seemed to be accurate. I'm not the best person to be authoritative on the subject though.

Well, he might well be the nominee. He seems fiercely determined.

To be honest, I avoid politics as much as possible. But if you want to know who will be elected, I've found the media to be a perfect predictor since Reagan or so. (I'm not talking about poll results or predictions, but about how candidates are portrayed. Whoever the media paints in the best light gets elected.)

But with the caveat that I try not to focus much on it, and I might not have the same idea of "over the top stuff" in that case (I'd have to guess it's about racial issues and borders) ... I've actually seen someone who EXACTLY reminds me of Trump. Ross Perrot. I had wondered if Trump would likewise serve in the role of dividing loyalties, and then dropping out too late for the Republicans to regroup ...
