  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It’s hard to have joy when you are by yourself. It’s hard to have joy when you aren’t serving.

1 Thessalonians 3: 8 For now we really live, since you are standing firm in the Lord. (NIV)

“Now that’s really living.” We say that when someone is enjoying the lap of luxury. When they have it really good and have someone waiting on their every need hand and foot, we think that they have it made. I have been in situations where I had it really good. Recently, a friend gave me four tickets to a Major League baseball game. We had seats on the second row, right behind home plate. Our tickets came with access to an all you can eat buffet. But instead of having to go get the food, they brought you whatever you wanted. In fact, around the seventh inning, I asked for Peanut M & M’s and sure enough, our server brought me a brown paper bag filled with Peanut M & M’s. But even in all that comfort, what made the night for me was the fellowship of our two friends who we invited to come with us. Life is just best when it is with others. Life is even better when you serve others. We were able to provide a great experience for our friends at the baseball game. So, let’s apply this to our spiritual lives. We “really live” when we serve others in ministry. Everything from the greeter at a door to the teacher in a class gives you the opportunity to pour into the lives of others and serve them. That is what brings great joy and that is what makes the struggles of life seem very small and minimal.
