Vatican says private 'audience' in D.C. was with gay ex-student, not Kim Davis

A spokesperson for the Vatican stated that Pope Francis had not invited Kim Davis to the Vatican Embassy in Washington, DC, but she was in attendance at a gathering that included dozens of people. He suggested that the meeting may have been manipulated by her and her lawyer.

It would have been done on the first floor as the pope is coming down the stairs to leave -- ‘Holy Father, these people would like to bid you farewell as you go to New York’ -- That is the scenario,” he said. “It could have been 15 minutes [with] this grouping of people to say goodbye.”

In his statement, Lombardi added: “Pope Francis met with several dozen persons who had been invited by the Nunciature to greet him as he prepared to leave Washington for New York City.

“Such brief greetings occur on all papal visits and are due to the pope’s characteristic kindness and availability,” he said.

A week after Pope Francis met Kim Davis, the Kentucky county clerk jailed for her refusal to issue marriage licenses for same-sex couples, the Vatican on Friday suggested that she exploited the meeting to promote her views, denied that the pope fully supports her and cast doubt on her account of the encounter.

The Vatican later noted that Francis did have a private "audience" in Washington with a former student of the pope, Yayo Grassi, an openly gay Argentine who along with his longtime partner and some friends met with Francis.

Vatican spokesman Rev. Federico Lombardi said in a statement that Grassi, "who had already met other times in the past with the pope, asked to present several friends to the pope during the pope’s stay in Washington, D.C."

A video posted online shows Grassi embracing the pope and introducing him to his partner, as well as an Argentine woman and some Asian friends.

Does that suggest she is either delusional or deceptive? Or, maybe those around her are using her in unscrupulous ways?

I am uncertain which might be the case, or if it is all of the above.

When you can't even trust someone who refuses to either perform her sworn duty or resign from her post, seriously, who can you trust?

It is a pity, that this lady, has made headlines around the world. People have asked me, if Christians in America are like her. It's not a surprise, at all, that she manipulated the truth, about her having time with the Pope.

Considering she claimed a prayer rally LAST YEAR was about her this year....she really seems to be trying to convince everyone of lies.

By a woman and her attorney.

The Pope was manipulated into a meeting at the D.C embassy by a woman who had to travel there from Kentucky, and her attorney.

I think you are misunderstanding what is being stated and need to re-read what was said. Ms. Davis claimed to have had a private audience with the Pope. What has come out is that it was not a private audience, instead she was part of a group that met the Pope, and that she was invited by a Bishop that works in the consulate in DC. The Pope may, or many not, have known who she was and likely did not say anything much different than he said to others who were in that group -- and likely gave everyone rosaries, not just Ms. Davis and her husband.

The sole private audience, that was actually requested by the Pope, was with a gay man that Pope previously taught in Argentina; the gay man also brought his partner who was in the private audience.

Basically, what the Vatican is stating -- and apparently because of the claims of Ms. Davis and her supporters -- is that the claims she and others, on her behalf, have claimed are not accurate, but are being embellished. They are not claiming that none of it is true -- merely clarifying she did not have a private audience, was not invited by the Pope. He did not express support for her "fight".

And she didn't travel from Kentucky just for the Pope. She was already going to DC for the FRC summit. And the Bishop who invited her to the group greeting has worked with her attorney in the past, is a Ratzinger loyalist, and has attended anti-SSM events. He will probably lose his position as Papal nuncio.

If you read the primary article I posted or the other ones I've linked you'll learn that Kim Davis was amongst dozens of people who had very brief, communal exchanges with the Pope. She had the privilege of being in the same room breathing the same air as him for a brief moment and being one of many recipients of the rosary beads he customarily hands out to people he meets in such settings. You can also buy those rosaries at the Vatican gift shop. I know because I bought rosaries there for Catholic friends while in Italy in August. She's lost so much credibility that I wouldn't be all surprised if someone else gave her the rosaries she claims were gifted to her by the Pope. You know what Kim Davis should simply do to prove that she actually is being honest about having met with Pope Francis and engaging in a conversation with him that would have given him the time to encourage her to "stay strong" as she claims? There are photos of Pope Francis with others he met with privately, as well as those he shook hands with at public meetings. We know neither of them are photo shy. Yet, there's no photos of him with Kim Davis.

You know what? No Christian has to prove to you they are Christian.

Never before have I ever seen those that profess the Bible and Christ arguing in favor of sin. Maybe that's why there's so much hate and loathing for Mrs. Davis! She stood against it.

Meanwhile, I would hope Christians here take a really good look at what's being argued in this type thread about Mrs.Davis.
She refused to violate God's institution of Marriage by issuing licenses to those he called an abomination worthy of death in the old testament. And that Jesus promised unrepentant would not see the kingdom of Heaven.

In this and many other threads like it, we have people who profess Christ who attack Mrs.Davis for not turning from God and instead conceding to the will of the state and the USSC.
They've thrown every stone they can think of at her in the process. Damning her for receiving her legal government salary as an elected government official because she does more at her job than issue licenses. They've brought up her past sins that they didn't realize God did not remember anymore once she was saved a little over four years ago. They've even demanded that to satisfy their outrage she should commit the sin of divorce of her present husband and return to her first husband so as to remarry and what? Correct a sin God remembers no more. They've accused her, and it started as one and then others jumped on the bandwagon, of being a Catholic formerly, or another denomination prior to her own words where she states she found Jesus a little over four years ago. She was even said to have been raised by Catholic parents. While requests for proof of all those accusations were ignored by the accusers.
Now, the tactic is guilt by association. Someone claims Mrs. Davis was given this award by the same organization Josh Duggar was affiliated with. When it isn't at all true and that is easily discovered inputing a few words into a search engine.

All this effort to assault a Christian woman who holds to God's word. An effort made by a minor number who appear to have converts coming along now with the Josh Duggar falsehood, in order to defend what God has told Christians is an abominable immoral sin. Not one prayer for the sinners. Instead, slings and arrows delivered by those with planked eyes, who chose to ignore that particular scripture posted here,so as to defend those sending themselves to Hell. While committed to slandering, verbally abusing, a Christian woman.
