I've been in bible studies for the past year and a half, and I can say with confidence I know my bible. The only issue I have is finding the right church, I moved to a different city in the past 6 months and I was wondering how some of you go onto finding a good church. Please be specific this will be my first church that I choose for myself, before I was attending my parents church. Any help will be appreciated!

just try out several different churches and i believe God will give you a special feeling of certainty when you are in the church where He wants you to be , let God guide you He has a plan for you in this life dont be guided by the expectations of other people regarding where they think you should be or what they think you should do . and hi

Hello. :)

Do you have specific criteria in mind in looking for a church?

The only advice I can offer is to keep in mind that all Christian churches consider themselves to be following the Bible in some way, though they may not always agree on approach or application.

The most scriptural fellowship I have seen in over 60 years of sojourn with the Lord, is such a Bible-only gathering as shown at the biblecounsel website. One can ask questions there. It seeks to show what God intends for His testimony in the world. Depending on where you live there may be such a gathering nearby. Write me anytime if you wish. -1watchman

Hi, Palmtree. Most of us would say that it's important, first, to identify the doctrinal orientation, form of church government, and worship style that you consider correct (or at least preferable), as you understand the Bible's witness on such things.

Then seek out a congregation of the denominations that most closely reflect that. We can help with this if you were to list your requirements. Of course, every denomination has some variance, congregation to congregation, so ideally you would be willing to visit a few churches in person as you refine your search.

I do not, by the way, find that online quizzes and such are very accurate, but a little investigation of the denominational (and local) churches' websites or a visit to the library usually is very beneficial. I see that you've already identified yourself as Pentecostal, so that narrows the field immediately and you may wind up deciding your church on the basis of size, the abilities of the pastors, and other considerations that are mainly local. But these are definitely to be determined by in-person visits.

I looked at church web sites first if they had one or if the pastor had an online sermon I might listen to it. See what ministries they have going on and if you could see yourself taking part in any of it. More than anything, you have to decide what is important to you because many churches emphasize different things like small groups or having the Lord's Supper every week or having a strong children's and youth ministry. Decide your priorities ahead of time and what is a no go and what is okay with you.
