I want to get hired and here is my success story:

My company was competing to win the account of a major client, but we had nothing our competitors didn't also have and we were told that our offer was not the most attractive one they had received.

So first thing on Monday I pulled together a team and by working in a synergistic fashion we were able to maximise the impact of our new presentation and not only won the client but they also recommended our services to several of their own suppliers which meant over the next three years we had more than tripled our gross revenues and profits.

Do I get the job?

Oh, and I also love reading business articles and copying things out of them.

Oh yes, I actually have two areas of weaknesses, one is a love of orange sherbert and the other is I take my job too seriously and spend the holidays thinking about new strategic approaches to our markets, and developing my mind with the latest books on business strategy and quantum mechanics, which is my hobby, which I do at the same time as I work out and calculate the US budget deficit. It's just the way I roll.

I've managed to keep my social life in order by dividing contacts into friends and admirers. Friends get special notes on Sundays after church but admirers just get a Christmas card and a mid summer update on my surfing.

There are about 700 admirers I've collected over the years so two notes a year broadcast to them all is the most I can realistically do without cutting into the time I spend on my charity work.

I've been voted 'Man of the Year' three times running by the grateful citizens of the town I live in and toasted at the yearly inaugaration ceremony by the mayor.

Welcome on board. You're just the person we are looking for.

The starting salary is $50,000 a year.

You will be expected to fulfil a 60 hour per week contract for 50 weeks of the year. But employees, like yourself, who show real commitment to the company work twice as long as this.

You will be expected to live in a modern six bedroom house (as there is a large degree of entertaining of our foreign clients) and have a new car that is commensurate with the company image.

There is a requirement that you be on call 24/7 due to the various time zones of our customers. Can you let HR have your phone number.

One added perk that a lot of our management level employees have found invaluable is preferential access to our divorce lawyers as sometimes spouses have clung to the old fashioned concept of work / life balance and living within your means.

Let us know when you can start?

Surprising considering this started as a purely fictional thread of business bull so far, um well, been there done that...

My first job was 57 hr a week, my next was more, my most recent was about 52,000 dollars a year working days and nights in rotation.

But in Oxfordshire 50,000 a year only rented a small 1960s three bedroom house and bought a very small car.

[Here in New Mexico 25,000 a year buys a large three bedroom house (not modern, mid 1970s, about the same age and condition as the house in Oxfordshire), and a good-sized car. Cost of living is about 40% of what it is in David Cameron's right-wing paradise. People with 50k here can live a good life.]

How typically moronic to think that a prime minister who has only just in his second term is to blame in entirety for the cost of living in the UK. Just stick to fantastical anecdotes as you obviously know nothing about economics. Why don't you tell us why it's so cheap to live in New Mexico, I suppose it's because it's a Marxist paradise?

Irony is buying an expensive telephoto lens to take a picture of nature which you then can't photograph because it is climbing all over you...

(yes I know she may be trying to take a picture of something else, but I still think sometimes nature is a bit odd, the animals are just as nosey as she is...)
