Hello and welcome.

Hi Gof and welcome. I lived in the midwest for ten years (long time ago) and it was a rich place to enjoy God! It's important to have others of like faith around you to fellowship with ---they understand the struggles of Christian faith. But not all churches are the same, in fact, NONE of them are like the other. I would visit many. Try to stick with basic faith types I think, not on the fringes until you find more of what you want... Assembly of God, Baptist, Presbyterian, Church of God, some "Community" churches have basic faith backgrounds and will usually say so on their websites (like they are a "Southern Baptist" church... even though their name doesn't say it.... and they in particular have certain strong beliefs, the "southern baptist" part means they agree to join their mission monies together with other like churches to send it out.)

But don't join the first one or two you find... as the Holy Spirit can be found in many...and the programs and people are what you look for next.
