Its interesting to hear of richard reminisce..
I heard they now have a richard and karen carpenter performing arts center in califrnia at the university.
I did hear richard wen to study music but dropped out as got busy performing. I dont know if karen ever studied...
Wow, You're baby doesn't love you sounds great. Just listening to it now, the harmonies are lush, the strings, the drums, the trombone or sax..everything.
Richard was an amazing arranger.
This is funny to find out that Karen didn't much care for this song..prolly cos of the Kermit the frog connection. But she aces it. I get why she didn't like it though, its kind of an airy fairy song.
Friend gave me album 'Voice of the Heart' which was released after Karen's death which had her solo efforts. I listened to it yesterday and it had some bittersweet songs on it, I would say not up to par when they were in their hey day but still interesting to listen to, one song stood out 'Your baby doesn't love you anymore' which was sad.
Yea found carpenters gold dvd the other day.
Looking at their videos which were very 70s. Karen looked so frail and thin in the later ones you think she would snap.
I think she looked her healthiest before the anorexia got its hold on her. But im not sure exactly what year she decided to diet.
Lynn Anderson had a hit with her country cover, very similar to the carpenters that I wondered if they were copying her country style or she just rode on their success with it.
I wonder what is it about Karens voice that is so special.
I think because she sang low in a natural speaking voice and didnt have the vocal dramatics that other singers had maybe? Like she was confiding in you, or in the happy songs, songing as if she didnt have a care in the world and not really trying to impress you.
