Is it a sin to watch something where people constantly take His name in vain?

“For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God; having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people” (2 Tim 3:2-5)

“Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?” (2 Cor 6: 14)

“come out from among unbelievers, and separate yourselves from them” (2 Cor 6:17)

“Then I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of [Babylon], my people, lest you take part in her sins, lest you share in her plagues” (Rev 18:4)

I'd say the advice is pretty clear....

When I hang with people who are like that, I fear that I will take on their habits, so I don't. Same goes for TV and radio.

I am getting older. I have known people who, as they aged, lost control of their language and actions. I don't want that to happen. I want to glorify G-d in my words and deeds until after I take my last breath. I just don't want to endanger this.

Yep. Sorry to say but you are doomed to eternal flames in Hell.

LOL, kidding. I don't think its that bad. I think its kinda legalistic to tell people what they can and cannot watch. Of course if you watch a program about murder and you go and murder someone...THEN you might have a problem...

but honestly if you're okay with it..then go for it. I watch South Park and Family Guy so that stuff doesnt bother me too much.

It's everywhere, and it bothers me a little too, but what else can we do but ignore it? Shut out the whole world? That's not what Jesus would want.
The best thing we can do is be an example. Don't do it yourself, and be a role model for others.

I don't know if it's sin, but to me potty mouths just ruin an otherwise good script. It takes the fun out of entertainment, so I don't bother with shows that do that. An occasional potty word I can take, but if crude language is used more than once or twice, I'm out of there.

Watching something when they constantly take His name in vain, is that a sin because i keep watching it?

I think this blog post makes a good case for what it means to take the Lord's name in vain:

http://www.wowhop.org/live/2013/07/take-my-name/

It's more along the lines about how a wife takes on her husband's last name when she get's married. If she remains faithful to him, then she brings honor to his name, but if she were to be unfaithful and sleep around with other men, then she would bring dishonor to his name and would be taking his name in vain.

Ditto, I remember somewhere in the New Testament it says that if we desire to avoid all evidence of sin and corruption in our world, we must needs be removed from the world.

So even the Bible admits we can't avoid it. When I first became a Christian I used to inwardly cringe and narrow my eyes when I would hear profanities and the Lord's name taken in vain in media and entertainment.

Now, I realize it is a systematic of the world and it is unavoidable. We need to be an example and who are we an example to? The lost (the potty mouths).

Look, the Lord himself used ungodly and evil men to serve his purpose... namely the Assyrians, Babylonians, and Romans.

These were men of war, men acquainted with the trade of violence, with a propensity for torturing their captives particularly the Assyrians.

I am sure these men said many potty mouths things in their day and yet, God used them too.

Do I think its a sin to watch? No. Do I think we should watch it? Not if its affecting us and making us take the Lords name in vein. Though I do hate when its happens in movies. I recently watched the Lethal Weapon movies again and was shocked by how much they took His name in vein. Each movie had about 25+ references. Then again that was at the time when movie ratings were being adjusted and such things were allowed.
