Thats a good place, I would make that second on my list.

But they speak English.

I think Germany also fails on that count and France is borderline, but probably should count as not speaking English because a Frenchman will refuse to admit to knowing any English unless you speak French. (With a slight modification in the South of France. If you are playing for the local Rugby team not knowing French is acceptable, at least that is what some of the guys from my college team whom went over and played first division Rugby claimed).

The United States! It was a treat, to live there for a year. Seattle was my favourite, but I liked other cities, too. I hope to get a fellowship there, or have another way of living in the U.S. for a year, or so. Would have loved to have been there today. I arrived there, in September of last year, left in May. I never got to experience the big 4th of July celebration. Hope everybody has a great day.

Dur!! Why didn't I choose Italy? I could just learn Latin and be very well off linguistically speaking.

Latin is actually pretty useless for comprehending the romance languages. It's a great language to study and teaches you about language, but it won't help you understand other languages when spoken or even written.

not to be rude.... I mean you are a very smart lady and if you want to learn Latin, more power to you

but why not learn a language that people still.... you know.... still speak?

I mean I am Catholic and I only ever had the smallest inkling to learn Latin

Latin is very helpful in terms of understanding how language works.

Fine. You are shattering my dream to live in a Villa on the Italian Riviera. I'll have to say Greece then. I love Greek food and the scenery is incredible. It's on the Mediterranean Sea at least.

I could live just about anywhere on the Aegean, I don't think any body of water is more blue than that sea. Although Lake Tahoe comes pretty close.

I've never been to the west coast or seen Lake Tahoe. I've always wanted to though. I'm sure it's very beautiful. Have you been to Greece? It is such a beautiful country.

I haven't but it's on my list. Although the way things are going financially over there it makes you wonder how much longer Greece will be Greece. The west coast is untamed mountains, and Lake Tahoe is extraordinarily blue, almost famously blue. I bet you would like it! Although I would wager the Aegean still wins that category.

I was in Greece last July. I was a little concerned to go due to the unrest and economic problems. It was a fantastic experience and I'm very happy I went. You really need to go. I don't know what your interests would be, but I did a tour of Classic Greece. I saw most of the sites that are relevant to Greek history. I was only able to visit a few islands ( I could only get two weeks off from work). The islands are so beautiful and I do really regret not having a few more days to cruise.

It is really sad though to witness the poverty and struggles. Athens shows the most signs of the difficulty. The islands and other small towns are much more idyllic and preserved. Oh, and the food is incredible:)

My interests would be almost purely historical. Although, when I travel I like the immersion experience, that is to blend in and see my surroundings through the locals eyes. I guess being raised by an anthropologist will do that to a person. I bet the food was fantastic, yeah? Did you drink Ouzo?

One place I would like to go is Mount Athos, just because it's such a spiritually rich place.

Haha, I tried it. At one of the little restaurants we ate in, they brought everyone a complimentary shot of ouzo. I hated it. It was like liquorice flavored fire. I can't stand liquorice flavor to begin with. I guess it is more of an acquired taste. It is really hard to beat the fresh olive oil and feta cheese. The souvlaki is incredible and really cheap. The good thing is that Greece is mostly mountains and really steep terrain. You burn off all that food hiking up to the temples and ruins. I bet Mount Athos is very similar to Meteora. I was there (Meteora) and up in the mountains touring all the monasteries from the middle ages. It was just as you described.

Jeez that sounds fantastic. I'm all for fresh Greek olive oil and feta.
