Sounds like a great thread! Will you start it? I would like to try too!!!

Hi; Tishri1; I didn't see this post till yesterday;:date: and then wasn't sure you were addressing it to me about the emoticon:heavycheck: contest; as there was another post in between. Now if you had copied mine; I'd a known.:):exclamation: (I've been wondering why staff very seldom copies the post they are dealing with; it would stop some confusion; even if just for those easily confused,o_O like me. ) Is it because it saves time or that you can't do that when your texting on a mobile;:telephonereceiver: and that's what most people are used to?:!?:

Nuther; thing I was wondering where would I put this thread;:confounded: as here in the lounge, it wouldn't get much views.:eyes: What ya think?

Edit to add smiley; so you will know I was kidding here--and hope I didn't sound pushy:D

My sister asked me to come check out something that she had posted, then a year and a half later she asked me again...against my better judgement (being a very narrow minded Independent Fundamental Baptist) I posted something.

Because the Bible says, Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection. But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. For Adam was first formed, then Eve. And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression. 1 Timothy 2:11-14, I was reluctant to respond.

....but my emotions got the better of me as I saw some not being nice to my sister  ...so I did it

Now I can't seem to stop, but I think I really need to.

Hi,
Welcome to CF and to our new lounge! Please make yourself comfortable and tell us how you found Christian Forums.

I'd been doing some deeper bible study and was feeling really motivated to act my faith not just learn it but I didn't know in which direction to go just that I was ready to help. I prayed about it and talked to family members about it. Around the same time on an episode of Greg and Jennifer's podcast The Catholics Next Door they were talking about the recent Catholic Media Celebration and the coming together of bloggers, podcasters, video makes etc sharing the faith and finding your niche in that. I've always enjoyed writing and finding it easier to get my thoughts out on paper or computer rather than talking face to face with people. I'm quite shy and don't deal with confrontation well.

I thought about blogging or keeping up with faith based posts on my social media sites but it just didn't feel right and I was just praying that my energy wouldn't run out while I waited for something and then I found this place during a random online search for Christian online communities and it's perfect for me. I can share and grow my faith in a safe environment and be able to connect to people without upsetting my social anxiety.

It's great, it's building me up and preparing me for when the time comes when I can leave the house.

Hi,
Welcome to CF and to our new lounge! Please make yourself comfortable and tell us how you found Christian Forums.

I've been looking for a discussion forum to discuss all aspects of the Christian faith and worldview. I found this forum via a websearch. I use duckduckgo.com search engine.

I found CF wholly by accident when I was Googling for a new science fiction and fantasy forum to call home. That sounds like a jab, but it's really not. One of the pages that popped up brought me to a thread on this site that was discussing Dungeons & Dragons. I admit that upon seeing that the thread was a part of a Christian forum, I immediately assumed that it was going to be bashing the popular RPG for promoting Satanism and generally just corrupting our impressionable youth.

I was going to ignore it and just move on, but then I noticed that one of the commenters mentioned that they still played the game and so I became intrigued. Now when it comes to online forums, I have a tendency to ignore usernames and avatars and just read the post at hand. This isn't something I do intentionally. I am just naturally more interested in what a person is saying than I am their online profile. But being familiar with this site's format, I could not help but notice the bit of extra information displayed under each person's avatar. Chief among these being Faith.

Then I noticed that among those discussing D&D were proclaimed atheists and Christians alike. And yet here they were, speaking civilly to one another about a topic that has had (and still does for some) a very tense relationship with religion (especially Christianity).

So I decided to poke around just a little bit more. As I usually do with any new online forum I come across, I first checked out the rules. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the rules seemed rather flexible and even accommodating. I will admit that there were certain parts that I found disconcerting, but I'll not go into detail about that here.

And then I browsed through a few of the threads. Again, I was a little unsettled by what appeared to be some serious segregation in how the threads are set up (such as the Christians Only tag I noticed), but I accepted it as a necessity. After all, for a Christian forum to welcome non-Christians is a huge leap in my many experiences with Christianity and so it only makes sense for them to keep a little nook to themselves. And even then I noticed that non-Christians were welcomed to join those threads if they had questions concerning Christianity. Again, a refreshing change from my usual experiences.

So while I've only just joined, my experience here has been positive so far. I expect I will eventually run into a few bad seeds. After all, not since Eden, I'm sure, has there been a tree entirely devoid of rotten fruit. And keeping to an objective view, it seems like the Moderation here is the same as any other forum out there on the Web. A non-Christian might feel oppressed if they are approached by a Moderator for rule-breaking, but I suspect that is something that cannot be helped. After all, it is primarily a Christian forum.

So there you have it; my little story. I found this place by accident and now I am looking forward to getting to know a few people, regardless of faith.

P.S. I am still looking for a science fiction/fantasy forum to call home. This place is fine and all, but I need to find a cozy place for the nerd in me to curl up and chat.

I love this part! You are quite a writer!
I agree in that I dont automatically look at the info under the persons name either, mostly only when Im doing reports ;)
Tell us how we can help make a forum that will suit the "Nerd" in you!:)

I came across this site as I searched the web for an christian forum.
I have been a regular participant at Catholic Answer Forums in the past and while its nice to speak to other catholics about faith and moral the site is a bit to strickt for my taste.
CAF is way to uniform to me, and to dissagree in subjects with the staff almost exclusively lead to sanctions.
Not nice :p

Except from my participation at CAF ive been and still are a active poster at OrthodoxChristianity.net which is a very good board if one handle a heated debate.

In the beginning (prior to opening an account at this place) I got under the impression that this site was protestantic and ecumenical (which in some sense it is) which proved to be wrong.
While it is ecumenical one doesnt have to engange in it if one doesnt feel like it.
The safehavens is a brilliant idea that has helped me grow in understanding of other faiths aswell as my own.
Its only thrugh challenges that one may grow in ones own faith which ive experienced at CF.

Furthermore, the chance this forum provides to pray in fellowship and encourage each other despite differences in faith is a very important start on the road to bridge building.
Understanding of others and their faiths, not compromiss ones own faith.
This I feel CF makes possible:)
