I actually like Peter Capaldi! He is a breath of fresh air after three young whippersnappers who talk so fast I can't understand them.

My favorite scene with Peter Capaldi is when he and Clara were in the restaurant where no one was really eating...do you remember that episode? In that scene he really transformed into the Doctor in my mind. I hope he's around for a long time!

Given The Corsair already switched genders, gender switching by regeneration is already established, so there's no "Cannon" issue.
The viewers on the other hand(Especially in America) might think that they're trying to push the LGBTQA Agenda.
I think a species change would be accepted better than a gender change, though that might be a problem given The Doctor is 1/2 human. (or at least was 1/2 human) who knows what a regeneration really does to a body.
