What is faith? Faith is believing in the unseen. Faith is accepting the word of someone you believe in. Faith is trust in something you may not fully understand. When someone tells you an elaborate story, you believe them because of faith in them. When you flip a light switch you fully expect the light to turn on, having faith in the abilities of electricity. Did you personally take part in that elaborate story or have you ever seen electricity? No, yet you still believe. "...faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen." (Hebrews 11:1)

Having faith in something is the only reason why anyone would act. Having faith that going to school to get an education would provide you with an opportunity for work keeps you going. Believing that working hard in your career would provide for better opportunities is to have faith. Christians have faith in God and believe in the words of the Bible. "By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible." (Hebrews 11:3) Without faith in something, you have nothing. For no one gains anything new relying on their capabilities alone. But through faith in electricity, education, or Jesus' sacrifice you surely have something new to gain. "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God" (Ephesians 2:8)

The Bible tells us that the chosen who were named acted on their faith in God. Abraham having faith in God, was willing to sacrifice His son by trusting in His plan. Moses having faith in God, led the Israelites out of Egypt not fearing the wrath of the Pharaoh or the dangers in the wilderness. David who faced the impossible task of slaying Goliath with nothing but a sling and stone, had faith in God. Samson destroyed the temple. Rahab welcomed spies. These examples are people who did not trust in their own abilities, but in God's will. Faith is believing in something more than yourself. Faith in God is believing in He who created you for His glory. "By faith Noah, being warned by God concerning events as yet unseen, in reverent fear constructed an ark for the saving of his household. By this he condemned the world and became an heir of the righteousness that comes by faith." (Hebrews 11:7)

Fellow Christians, keep your faith in the Lord. Believe that He will always provide for you and He certainly knows what is best for you. Do not grow weary when the world around you is crumbling. Do not waver when they tell you your faith is futile. Believe in Him and you will have what has been promised. For what other purpose do you have than to serve and love the Lord? "You shall walk after the Lord your God and fear him and keep his commandments and obey his voice, and you shall serve him and hold fast to him." (Deuteronomy 13:4)
