Diary of St. Faustina Kowalska - Divine Mercy in my Soul. A must read. It changed my life.

It is available online and for free

"O my Jesus, You are the life of my life. You know only too well that I long for nothing but the
glory of Your Name and that souls come to know Your goodness. Why do souls avoid You,
Jesus?-I don't understand that. Oh, if I could only cut my heart into tiny pieces and in this
way offer to You, O Jesus, each piece as a heart whole and entire, to make up in part for the
hearts that do not love You! I love You, Jesus, with every drop of my blood, and I would
gladly shed my blood for You to give You a proof of the sincerity of my love. O God, the more
I know You the less I can comprehend You, but this "non-comprehension" lets me realize
how great You are! And it is this impossibility of comprehending You which enflames my
heart anew for You, O Lord. From the moment when You let me fix the eyes of my soul on
You, O Jesus, I have been at peace and desired nothing else. I found my destiny at the
moment when my soul lost itself in You, the only object of my love. In comparison with you,
everything is nothing. Sufferings, adversities, humiliations, failures and suspicions that have
come my way are splinters that keep alive the fire of my love for You, O Jesus.
My desires are mad and unattainable. I wish to conceal from You that I suffer. I want never
to be rewarded for my efforts and my good actions. You yourself, Jesus, are my only reward;
You are enough, O Treasure of my heart! I want to share compassionately in the sufferings
of my neighbors and to conceal my own sufferings, not only from them, but also from You,
Jesus.

Suffering is a great grace; through suffering the soul becomes like the Savior; in suffering
love becomes crystallized; the greater the suffering, the purer the love."

I greatly enjoyed this book a couple of years ago and keep losing copies of it but consider it next to my Catechism as a must-have in any Catholic library!

I was deeply inspired by St Faustina's journey as an artist. She herself was not an artist but in her struggle to communicate her vision of Christ as Divine Mercy she persuaded a priest to find an artist and he is the one who painted the original Polish version of the Divine Mercy. I began to look at all the other versions of this vision and then was inspired that part of St Faustina's message is for all Catholic artists to work at realizing the visions of saints in at least some of our work. Every parish has some artists in it and it is very important that each parish nurtures its own home-grown artists to develop these images that are given to us in the visions of saints.

There are so many ways St Faustina helps us all! And I felt especially blessed to be able to start calling Pope John Paul II "Saint" since he was also there in such close connection to Saint Faustina, what a great blessing for Poland during those harsh years!

I just finished reading the Diary this weekend. The further i read along in the book the slower i read. and then i started turning the corners of the pages down. The further i read, the more page corners i turned. As i turned down those corners i started finding answers to questions that i had had for many years. Imagine that!

What a book!

I'm reading Sr. Faustina's Diary now. What a wonderful, inspiration.
It's especially relevant now that Pope Francis has announced the upcoming jubilee year dedicated to Jesus' Divine Mercy.

This Holy Year will begin on this coming Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception and will end on November 20, 2016, the Sunday dedicated to Our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe – and living face of the Father’s mercy. I entrust the organization of this Jubilee to the Pontifical Council for Promotion of the New Evangelization, that [the dicastery] might animate it as a new stage in the journey of the Church on its mission to bring to every person the Gospel of mercy.
