Hey there :)

It's been a while since my last painting. That's what happens when life gets too crazy.
Love to draw when I'm able-- although my major focus is photography.
Composition for both hobbies though are about the same.
Have any stuff to share?

Hello look4hope.
Thank you for your response.
I know what you mean about getting sidetracked. I always do more art when I do not have a computer, TV, or DVDs.
Even when I worked full-time, I still managed to do art when I had no electronics.
Photography is easy and cheap now without having film, but you still have to tear yourself from the computer to venture outside to take those shots.

I noticed that the younger people are into digital visual arts. But I am an oldie who still likes the feel, smells, and movement of actually using various mediums.
I even enjoy creating canvas/board frames, especially large ones. Preparing the surface with white ground, always gets me excited about my next project/artwork.
Sometimes I even create other layers on the surface, to make it a bit 3D. I feel that real medium creations art more personal, interactive, multi-material, and imaginative than using a stylus, pad, and a computer. Even then, there is this separation/disconnection between doing (one hand) and seeing (a dislocated viewing screen). Digital art has taken the environment, interplay of materials, and even the personal out of art. Art is reverting from three dimensional creations, such as sculpture, back to where it originated from - dreams. Soon, computers plugged into the brain, will automatically make a hard copy of what we think. Computers have taken the practical out of art.

Sorry look4hope for me getting carried away with my griping. I suppose you now know where I am coming from... at least today anyways.

So what can I share? I have a few paintings, drawings and photographs. I'll start with a charcoal sketch.
So far I have only used charcoal to do quick rough sketches to brink certain images I do not feel comfortable about. I use it as a form of art therapy.
Charcoal is a primitive medium, it has feel to it that can bring primal stuff to the surface (for me anyway). It is scratchy, messy and the use of the fingers to smear and shade is very tactile and interactive. It is good for the soul to use our body to create in such fashion. As if we are actually doing what the body was made for.

This rough sketch is about my neighbor complaining to my father about the physical abuse he was dishing out on me. It was this very moment I realized that something might be wrong with my life setting. As I said, it is a rough sketch, and the theme is nothing pretty, but important to me.

I don't paint or draw but i admire those who do.

Intense drawing. Keep on drawing what you need to express. It's cathartic and "speaks" to others and may even help others who are experiencing such angst, pain, and oppressiveness and abuse.

Did you draw your avatar?

You are very gifted.

Hello Ahermit,

Thank you so much for sharing your sketch. You are definitely talented- it shows the emotion and frustration on their faces clearly. Sorry to hear this was a difficult moment in life.

Using art as a way to express the feelings we can't speak, can be liberating. It helps me cope with tough times, and takes me to a calmer place.

I use charcoal as well. But lately, I've been using pastels. I do enjoy drawing with pencil mostly.

Ill find something to share.:)

Hello brinny.
Thanks for your reply.
To answer your question: No. It is a print from a copper plate engraving my uncle made. It is his impression of St Francis of Assisi.

The abstract one is acrylic and the other two are oil.

Hello gerbilgirl.
The photos seem to make the paintings a bit dark and out of focus. From what I can see, shows good depth and perspective.
Are you currently doing a painting? If so, I would like to see it after you finish.

God Bless.

Yes, the photos are not the best. I just got a new camera, this one works a little better than the old one. I am working on an abstract painting. Will post when I'm done.
