I'm two months shy of my 44 birthday and I applied for a Masters in Professional counseling school today. I don't know if I have completely lost my mind or not, but this is scary stuff to me. I think I could probably do it in about 2 years or less. I want to get licensed as a professional counselor.

I already have a Masters in religious education, so I am hoping that some of my classes will transfer.

Congrats! I know that feeling, wondering if I'm out of my mind. I'm 43. I returned to school 4 years ago to earn a bachelor's in social and behavioral sciences. I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel with 89 credits under my belt. I'm so happy that I've persevered. I know you will be too. Good luck!

I just graduated with my MSW last year. 46. Perhaps you've graduated by now, too?

Yes it's annoying to share classes with students old enough to be your kids :) and awkward to be either 1) the same age/generation as your professor(s), or 2) have professors/supervisors young enough to be your kids....but you adjust.

N.B.: I was NOT the oldest in my class! There were several students older than me!

Very awesome! I completed that same degree, Master's in mental health counseling, in 2010 and am currently finishing up on my licensure hours. I did it all part-time so it took me a lot longer than 2 years. I'm hoping to find full-time employment in the field next year once I receive my state license. Good luck!
