I remember seeing in a (possibly BBC?)documentary that the Nazis were heavily influenced by Imperialism, especial the kind motivated by Racial Superiority, of the Brits.
Scientific Racism and it's prodigy of Eugenics were both spawned as means to confirm what we already believed at the time; the superiority of our race and its ways above those of other cultures and races.

In fact, I wouldn't think it too outlandish to suggest that the British Empire collapsing not long after such notions started falling out of favour was a coincidence(It's hard to keep a massive, often oppressive, empire alive without a huge sense of national pride/superiority for cohesion). But I'm far too ignorant to say anything with certainty.

In the end I think there are many factors that allowed eugenics and its horrific consequences to manifest, especially among European intellectuals and their US counterparts.
We should hopefully of learned from, if anything from this period and its climax in WWII, that there is no innate inferiority or superiority between humans, and that people of all demographics have equal worth.

me and a few friends were talking about history
most nations had this kind of racism before WWII
this egalitarianism and diversity that we enjoy now is the exception rather then the norm
I mean, we can even see horrible xenophobia all through history
(but it was the enlightenment era that gave it the more scientific and genetic component)

one thing is, look at East Asian cultures, it seems that since they did not really have the same cultural history as the West, these countries are slightly more likely to hold onto some of these ideas

Agreed.

I guess that's possible, but I really don't know enough to comment.

I agree with your view the WWII brought an end to British Imperialism
not just because the ideology was unwanted
also because the British were just tired of war, all of Europe was tired of War at that point
and the loss of life and property due to the war also made it more difficult to hold together an empire

agreed. the East and West did not mix cultures, and yet all the cultures of the existing world, without exception, developed similar ideas of the supremacy of the rulers, society-developed class status with the lowest classes being viewed as objects or possessions rather than as people, and a god/religion to worship.

Do you recognize that the Americans are now tired of war?

Hey, an good pro-lifer can figure out how to insert Hitler, Margret Sanger and Planned Parenthood into a recipe for brownies on a baking thread

yeah, we should just ignore abortion, maybe then it will just go away

Planned Parenthood has a world view that is VERY close to the Nazi ideology
sorry if this makes you uncomfortable

to compare what we have been through in the last few decades to what Europe went through in the first half of the 20th Century is ridiculous

here, educate yourself
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_I_casualties#Casualties_by_1914_borders

we have had NOTHING close to that

If a Republican candidate suggests war, as you have so many times, we shall find out. IMHO, there is no question regarding the American people being tired of war. If much stronger military actions are proposed by any candidate, it is my opinion that all other issues will all of a sudden be irrelevant.

And this would be true if Rand Paul ran on an anti-war platform as is consistent with the positions of many libertarians.

And 60 million have been killed in America alone through abortion.

So basically, America has been committing genocide in one way or another since before its inception just like other countries in this world.

It has been estimated that about 50 million people died in WW2. And 60 million have been killed in America alone through sbortion.

There are reasons that conservative Catholics are often ignored in politics. The equating of all abortions to WWII is one of those reasons.

you are pointing out "people do not like it when you compare abortion to the holocaust"
that is true
but you are not really saying if the comparison is valid or not

lets look at a few things
killed an insane number of human beings
check
goes against the teachings of the Catholic Church
check
has a small number of fanatical supporters in high office and among the population and a large number of people who give it partial support or just kinda go along with it
check
has as its main justification "these people are subhuman"
oh that is a big check
kills people from all walks of life but has higher rates of murder among ethnic minorities
check

yeah, if the jackboot fits....
