There was only one church at the time. And it was the same church instituted by Christ; the Schism had not yet happened.
If you mean the Church of Love, Compassion and Service to those in need with an eye towards the Divine, I'd agree with you. Otherwise, Jesus was Jewish, His message was delivered to Jews, His inner council were all Jewish, everything about Jesus is Jewish. He did not institute a Church separate from His Jewish community.

It is my understanding that the Holy Spirit would teach us all things and keep us from error. Of course to reconcile we must interpret to include ourselves . All I can say if I am to believe Jesus and Paul then I would question any spiritual guidance that does not provide a provable doctrine.
You misunderstand. The Holy Spirit was leading me to the truth. The errors were mine. I was being led to the truth through those diverse places of my errors.

Hi all,

I have not been here in a long time, but for some reason I saw this thread. Just by looking at the discussion here he is just out to cause problems. He is not saying much, yet you all are discussing things that seem to be humoring him. I think he is here just to cause strife. God bless you all.

I've changed by views on certain beliefs through the years, discarding some. On the other hand, there are certain beliefs which have been consistent, non changing. While embracing then what I now to believe to be error, I wouldn't say that I was led by the Holy Spirit at the time even though at the time I thought I was.

Have you changed your beliefs at all are do you believe exactly as you did at the beginning of your Christian journey?

My beliefs have changed the last 40 years due to intense research. I once was led by a familiar spirit but the truth as I expose it proved it was not a Holy Spirit.
"13For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. 14No wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.15Therefore it is not surprising if his servants also disguise themselves as servants of righteousness, whose end will be according to their deeds."

I think most of us have similar stories.

Technically providing you believed in Jesus Christ and wished to follow life according to His guidance, but looked at the Bible as perhaps more of a cultural reading of Christianity at the time and not a rule book of life, you could argue that you are in fact a Christian. In fact I am pretty sure that there is more than one school of Christian thought that almost directly states that it is a believe in Jesus Christ, not a belief in the Bible itself, which makes a Christian a Christian.
Dear MiniEmu are you a greek speaker? I am :)

Yes I am still looking for answers as I think we all are. And as I said I am not looking for debate nor do I want to invalidate the Bible. By discussing these things I am coming to where I can ask more questions. As I said I love Jesus and what he represents in my mind. In the manner that I see him he makes me moral. And I feel good because of that. And I very much want to see Christianity prosper. I just have a lot of issues with the old testament.
Why do you think Jesus lived a sinless life?

Does this mean that you are able to judge if someone is a Christian or not?

Bottom line, who cares what anyone else thinks, if a person has their own faith beliefs that are genuine, they should stick with them.
Only using God's word as a measure are we able to know if someone is born again or not.

I agree with you. I don't care what anyone else thinks.

Jennae, yes Justification through faith, not works. And it is difficult I'd say to be so close to Jesus, if you've never read the Bible. So let's all read a bit every day :) I'm a musician so I get fed up of reading music :)
Since the bible is Gods holy word and gives us a way to get to know him personally, how can you live your life as a Christian if you don't believe the bible. How would you know you are a Christian?

Scripture teaches that the moment we turn from sin and trust in Jesus to be forgiven of sin, we are saved (Acts 2:37-41). Therefore we have passed from spiritual death to spiritual life (John 5:24) and has been declared not guilty in God's court of law (Rom 3:21-26). From God's perspective, our salvation is an objective reality that cannot be changed (Rom 8:28-30).

If you don't believe in scripture, how will you know you are a follower of Jesus.
What exactly does it mean to you to be a Christian?
Do you Wish to spend eternity in heaven with Jesus? Or do you just want to learn about him on earth as a historical person you admire.
To be a Christian requires a decision.
I just don't see how you can be a believer in Christ yet not believe the bible. The bible is the book that tells about the life, death, resurrection, ascension of Christ. It tells us how we can have eternal life so that we can be with Jesus one day. It tells us how to fulfill the great commission and lead others to Christ as well.
What does it mean to be a Christian to you without scripture?

Well I once believed in the trinity, believed Jesus was a God, believed God's Laws were abolished, believed Jesus rose on a sunday, believed in Hell, believed we go to heaven at death instead of after a future judgment, believed Adam was the first man created, believed Adam's sin was eating fruit none of which are biblical.

Trinity: This passage clearly shows that God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are one.
Romans 8
9 You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. 10 But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness. 11 And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of his Spirit who lives in you.

God's laws: There is no law against Christians:
Galatians 5
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. 24 Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

Adam's sin was not eating fruit, it was disobedience.
