The Christmas Special/Matt Smith's last episode was fantastic IMHO. I think Steven Moffat did a great job of wrapping up the story lines with Matt as the Doctor. I was very pleased, and like the way that Moffat clearly fixed the limited number of regenerations problem.

I wish Matt Smith all the best, and I'm excited to see what Capaldi will do with the role. As a lifelong fan, I'm loving it!

I know I'm late in giving my thoughts on the Christmas Special but oh well.

Overall I was really underwhelmed and disappointed. I was expecting something epic and touching and instead it just felt slow. Smith didn't really do much except grow old and then regenerate. I'm really hoping Peter gets a chance to make the role his own and bring something fresh to it.

I can't believe I've missed this thread, Doctor Who's become one of my favourite shows within the past 6 months - I love it. I gotta say, I'm with Thuder Peel - 10/Tennant was my favourite. Heck, I'll admit, I was on the verge of crying when I finished 'End of Time' ("I don't want to go").

Now thoughts on stuff:

The 50th/Day of the Doctor - I for the most part loved this episode, it was great to see Tennant back, and I loved the interaction between 10, 11, and War Doctor. My only complaint was that by lingering on the War Doctor's regeneration they gave a brief hope that they had lied, and we'd get to see 9/Eccleston after all. That, and I wish there would have been some kind of interaction between 10 and 11 and Rose - but neither of these are actual beefs.

The Christmas special/Time of the Doctor - really enjoyed it, but was surprised by the regeneration scene - it was pretty quick, I was expecting something bigger I guess (maybe not as long as 10's regeneration (which was not just a farewell to 10, but to everyone from series 1-4/the specials), but still). Don't really have any beef with it though. I'm looking forward to where the show'll go from here.

I also gotta say, series 7 and series 3 are my least favourite. 7, although featuring some great episodes, feels kinda uneven and has the Doctor doing stuff that doesn't make sense for the situation. 3, outside of 3 episodes and the last 20mins of the finale is the weakest to me - I don't much care for Martha, and hated her mother.

I like the show but I'm less enthusiastic with Moffat's work than RTD's. Though I will admit, I love River Song (and Amy & Rory). But Moffat's addiction to "plot twists" (which are becoming a bit too twisty and overdone) has made me not want to really keep up when Capaldi takes over. I'll probably watch the first few episodes of Twelve and then go back to watching reruns of Nine, Ten, and (early) Eleven.

I considered that when I realized he was in the Pompeii episode. It could be like that episode where 10 took on a human form and didn't know he was anything but human, so he could have saved his own life in Pompeii

Not the best regeneration story IMO dragged a bit and the moment we had all watched for was over in a minute...very lazy writing to cover the whole " let's give him a whole new set of lives so we can carry on!" Couldn't they have come up with something a bit more original that the whole going back to the crack in the wall? Not going to be on my list of favourite episodes!

Well, I think it would be fair to say that I'm a Matt Smith fan rather than a Dr Who fan. *runs for cover* :p Dr Who has been on over here in NZ since I was a kid, but I never really got into watching it at all. It was only when I chanced on an episode on tv with Matt starring, that it caught my attention. I love the way Matt portrays the Dr and I love Karen and Arthur in their roles of Amy and Rory too. Because of that, I'm going to have a look at the new Dr when he appears and see if the programme still holds my attention.

What i was hoping for was a master-ish he got a whole bunch of extra lives when he ended the time war type thing. I also probably wouldn't have charged the war doctor to him either.

Just finished reading Dr Who and the Abominable Snowman. Thoroughly enjoyed it. The story was only 160 pages long, and portrayed the Doctor in his Number 2 incarnation. Made me think that no matter how "unchangable" one might expect a treasured place in our memories may be, there will always be differences when we return.
