Can you give me examples of popular but unscriptural Christian cliches? I shall start the ball rolling with this :

"Slain by the Holy Spirit"

I just cannot find the word "slain" in the New Testament.

Saw a study on this on t.v a while back. This is the most popular and well know "verse" in the Bible. Sad thing is it's not even in the Bible. Nor is the concept.

Closets thing you got is when Jesus said I am he, and they fell over backwards, in the light of that, it's a little bit scary, considering what they were coming to him for.

Though, outside of what people deem it to be, spiritually, consider Job's words of, Though he slay me yet will I trust in him, God did not slay Job ... he slew his perception of what he thought was the truth, birthed by the hearing of the ear.

i dont know if this counts, its more of a misquote but "money is the root of all evil"

when the bible says that "the LOVE of money is the root of all evil"

big difference there. but i hear it quoted out of context all the time.

Well the word "slain" is in the NT:

Rev 5:6 ...a Lamb as though it had been slain....

Rev 5:9 “You are worthy to take the scroll,
And to open its seals;
For You were slain


Rev 5:12 ...Worthy is the Lamb who was slain...


Rev. 6:9; Rev. 13:8; and Rev 18:24.

But, I cannot find "slain by the Holy Spirit"

You know, there are several places where people fell out under the power and influence of the Holy Spirit... like when they came to arrest Jesus, they all fell backwards for some strange reason. People don't normally do that.

Yeah, but we aren't 'slain' in the Spirit even if someone falls over. We'd have to DIE to be slain, right? lol.

God helps those who helps themselves... its actually Greek about Hercules.

"Jesus is in my heart" - not that I'm against it, but its a confusing phrase for kids and probably not the best way to explain salvation.
