As much as I agree with you...should we really sit back and let this just happen?
Well, for years I was a total hawk. But after a tour of my own in Iraq, and my husband's several in Afghanistan, and the blatant double standards of who's massacres we're gunna go involve ourselves in, and who's we aren't...I have to tell you, I am leaning more towards continued diplomatic pressure, rather than military intervention.

Its an internal matter

I agree, no good can possibly come from US intervention in this mess. You have Assad on one end and radical Islamist on the other. It's a lose lose proposition no matter what happens.

The use of these kinds of weapons and those like them (biological, nuclear) should be considered a crime against humanity. If Assad uses them against his own people he is a true monster.
Granted. but why is it our blood and treasure that has to stop him?

I never said it was. There are a lot of less costly alternatives to war however that we should at least consider.
Well... like what? If we take it as read that the CBR weapons are ready and standing by, so a blockade and sanctions might not be helpful at this point

You've got to be kidding me. If he does this, we are justified in ending this nonsense with military force. This is insanity.

No we aren't. It's not our war. The Arab league should be able to handle it.

Ah, I never realized you were in the service. Thank you and your husband for your service.

Why should we launch a military invasion to help Al Qaeada?

Has nothing to do with al-Qaeda. It has to do with the innocent men, women and children who would be killed by the thousands by such an attack. It goes from a civil war, sad but really their issue to deal with, to a crime against humanity and that justifies immediate intervention. It's not a liberal position. Surprised to even be getting push back from many conservatives. I believe in our roll in the world, I just don't believe in spreading democracy through military force. I do believe in helping those who can't help themselves. What if these were your kids over there?

....and then there's this question:

I think the upside to them launching a chemical attack is it would pretty much unite the world against Syria. It isn't something we would have to go alone. Something like how Libya was handled is what I'm seeing, with an emphasis on securing/destroying WMD's. Libya was executed rather well and accomplished its mission. This is the route, not an invasion like the Iraq debacle.

...from what I have read, Assad would load the CW's on military aircraft to deploy them. I expect we could at least neutralize the Syrian air fields though their air defenses are much more capable than what Libya had...

Still, the CW's themselves would potentially need to be secured and that can only occur with teams on the ground.

Well I understand your point. I just do not see it likely that we will avoid getting involved if this does happen. I love the idea of letting other countries deal with their own problems but have some trouble with the idea that we could sit back while some dictator like figure does this to their own people. Your point on who massacres who is certainly relevant and respectable, however.
