Christian Women, Are You Causing Men to Sin?

This video is a rare glimpse of a pastor actively addressing the modesty issue, not as a ranting legalist, but as a loving pastor, concerned for his flock. Ideally, these issues should be taught by older women to the younger. But if that isn’t happening in a church, then the pulpits need to address it. John Bunyan, author of Pilgrim’s Progress, once wrote on the low-cut dresses of his day and how they caused men to sin. Some things never change.

Not watched the video yet, but to address the question at hand I'd have to say, no. Everyone is solely responsible for their own sin. No one else can cause it.

1 Corinthians 8:9

But take care that this liberty of yours does not somehow become a stumbling block to the weak.

1 Corinthians 10:31-33

So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. Do not cause anyone to stumble, whether Jews, Greeks or the church of God— even as I try to please everybody in every way. For I am not seeking my own good but the good of many, so that they may be saved.

It is possible to cause someone to stumble.

interesting rant. the guy is wound up, tight as a drum. I wonder if he's really talking about himself.

I made it 2 minutes. You have more of that what is it called...intestinal fortitude.

It starts off compassionate enough but then my spidey sense starts tingling away.

Women do not cause men to sin. KEEPING one's eyes ON CHRIST, is what each of us are admonished to do. It is written.

Yes. Christian women should not be dressed like Britney Spears in church, or anywhere for that matter.

Watching the video will help all of you understand better. Humble yourselves before the Lord.

Oh man, I can't bring myself to listen to this guy past a minute.

Funny, my wife (I had to share) and I listened to it at least twice through and some parts as many as four times through .. .. laughing hysterically of course, but we sure didn't have a hard time listening.

My Christian advice is: BSD31 had it right
Everyone is solely responsible for their own sin. No one else can cause it.

Didn't Jesus teach about the true basis of sin in these verses?

Matt 15:16-20 16 "Are you still so dull?" Jesus asked them. 17 "Don't you see that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and then out of the body? 18 But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man 'unclean.' 19 For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander. 20 These are what make a man 'unclean'; but eating with unwashed hands does not make him 'unclean.'" NIV

It's not externals. Jesus said of Himself:

John 14:30-31 30 I will not speak with you much longer, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold on me, 31 but the world must learn that I love the Father and that I do exactly what my Father has commanded me. NIV

Jesus was motivated by His relationship with His Father. From the richness of that, evil did not allure Him in any way.

Many Christians are struggling with sexual issues largely due to teaching like that in the video, and the values behind it, which are so far away from a genuine Christian basis. Our sexuality is to be celebrated, and from that wholeness we can then see anything less than God intends for what it really is - illusions and empty promises.

I am as normal as any guy in my ability to perceive an attractive woman. She is a gift of God. Do I want to jump into bed with every really attractive female I see? Do I become a slobbering brain dead male held captive by parts of my body? If that's what the all but helpless Christian guy is bound by then we are to be pitied indeed. If it was "for freedom that Christ has set us free" (Gal 5:1) I just don't see that when men are fearful of even looking at an attractive female they have come into true sexual wholeness and freedom. I enjoy women as people, not as enticing bodies.

Being attractive does not equate to skimpy clothing that reveals the breasts and conforms to the outline of the body (like spandex). There is such a thing as modest clothing. Clothing should frame the face from which the glory of God is revealed. If it frames the body and draws attention to it, then it is not of God.

Strangely, most of the men in this thread haven't expressed too much difficulty keeping our attention where it belongs. :|

You're missing the part where no one asked for your advice. Its a bit of a chicken move for someone to come on an advice board and post something preachy - and particularity when CF has a board exactly for your kind of post. Dropping this post in here was a little like walking into a circle of people gathered for a specific purpose, and then interupting with a smoking agenda.

I guess you missed the part where this forum is also for giving biblical advice.
