I find that it is much yummier with two cans of french cut green beans instead of frozen normal ones.  I can never get frozen beans to be soft enough in the casserole and the french cut (the long skinny ones) mix flavors with the soup well.

To A'miepje:

A casserole isn't just one thing.

Usually, it's a way to serve leftovers to your family as a new meal. But people have come to enjoy them so much, we now have recipes for making casseroles from FRESH stuff, LOL.

Think of a casserole as a soup or a stew that is much thicker, and you bake it in the oven, and you eat it with a fork.

Peace,

I never liked it, but now I do. I'm craving it now!!! :(

a'miepje - VOW's description was perfect!!! It is a baked, one-dish meal - you can put pretty much anything in it. They often have cheese, eggs, or soup in them as a cooking liquid. Also, meat and veggies - sometimes a starch (potatos, rice, crackers, etc) too.

I have several reliable recipes that use "Cream of Whatever" soup. It's always good to keep several cans on hand!

If you want something YUMMY and EASY, try this one:

One cut-up chicken (or the equivalent in your fave chicken parts)
1 can Cream of Whatever soup, condensed
1 can Tomato soup, condensed
1 onion, sliced.

DO NOT DILUTE THE SOUPS!

Place chicken pieces in square baking pan or dish which has been sprayed with no-stick spray. Evenly spread the sliced onion over the top of the chicken.

You can get fancy and stir the condensed soups together, or if you don't want to get a bowl messy, just plop spoonfuls of the soups over the chicken and onion.

Bake at 350° F for one hour, or until done.

Serve with noodles, rice, or potatoes.....the soups and the onion and the chicken juices will make the most heavenly gravy you have ever tasted. I've even used Top Ramen noodles as the starch, and that works out fine.

ENJOY!

My favorite simple cream of whatever recipe is Souped Up Rice. :)

You take a can of cream of whatever soup and cook it.
Then you take the empty can and fill it with rice.
When the soup is cooked, take it off the burner and stir in the rice.
Put the top on the pot and let it sit for 5-10 minutes.

All done!!!

A great side dish...or for me a main dish. ;) When I was living on my own I'd add a can of beans with the rice and then cook chicken nuggets separately. :) Mmmmm!!!!

I just love this chicken casserole. My mom has made it for years, probably many or yours did too.

Chicken parts for your family
can mushroom soup + one soup can full of hot water
can sliced mushrooms (optional)

one envelope dry onion soup mix (sorry about the missed line, I can't get this formatting right)
2/3 cup uncooked rice

  • lay chicken parts on the bottom of a roaster pan or casserole dish
  • spread mushroom soup over chicken parts
  • spread sliced mushrooms over the chicken and soup if your family will appreciate that many mushrooms
  • sprinkle uncooked rice over mushrooms
  • pour hot water over it all
  • sprinkle onion soup mix over the top
  • cover and bake at 350* for about 45 minutes or until the rice and chicken are done

Oh daph, I have a cheeseburger soup recipe with sour cream and cheese that is absolutely the END!! Email me for it!! I just made a chicken dish tonight that I'd never tried before.

Try this:

cut-up chicken pieces dredged in 1/4 to 1/2 cup flour
1/4 c butter or marg. melted
1/2 lb. mushrooms sliced
1 med. onion chopped coarsely and browned
2/3 c. evaporated milk
can of cream of mushroom soup
3/4 to 1 cup grated cheese (I'll use less next time)

Pour butter into roaster pan or casserole dish. Lay chicken over butter, Bake at 425* for about 30 min. Turn chicken and continue to bake another 15 to 20 minutes. Then remove from oven, reduce oven temperature to 350*. And add mushrooms and onion to chicken in baking dish.
Mix milk, soup and cheese in a small bowl then pour over chicken and mushrooms. Sprinkle with a little paprika or a tiny bit of curry, Cover with tin foil and bake at 350* for 20-25 additional minutes.

Very good served with rice or egg-noodles.
