Like Jesus said : Matthew 24: 35-37, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words shall not pass away. But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone". Why are people so hung up on this? Is this the purpose of Christianity, to spend all our time looking for an anti-Christ, a Second Coming or a new world of an unknowable time rather than doing what is expected of us in this time and place? So many people as a result carry on as usual in their self centered ways, thinking it will all work out in the end as if we have no responsibility for our actions. Yet God gives us chances time and time again for us to work it out for ourselves before He finds it necessary to pull the plug.
Perhaps the commandments He gave were so we would focus on the here and now rather than a time we have no control over anyway. It is fine to base hope on the Kingdom to come (it was His Gospel after all) but the idea is to live right and in the now, this rather than looking for signs all the time. That is our part while He takes care of His. What will be will be. Being prepared like a scriptural servant or handmaiden is simply living as if we were already in the Kingdom, focusing on the needs of all rather than on self. In that way when He comes, we are already living in a way expected of us, already loyal to His Kingdom. Otherwise He might say He never knew us.
