Just a couple of points.

1) Are the following two statements from the rules contradictory?

The Rules said:
Exposes and separates from all ecclesiastical denial of that Faith, compromise with error, and apostasy from the Truth;
The Rules said:
We will not, out of respect for our brothers and sisters in Christ, debate their doctrine.
It seems they are.

2) How does everyone feel about having the following added to the definition of fundamentalist?

Believes in the sovereignty of God. We stand with the Apostle Paul:
Romans 1:16-17
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

The definition is taken directly from the conference. There is no need to deabte the doctrines that are specific to other faiths. Debate is no forbidden but if the doctrine is not one that would be taught in one of our churches then we have no call to debate it in a fellowship forum. Some examples are:

  1. The venreration of Mary - No need to deabte this as this is not doctrine taught by fundamentalists
  2. Real Presence - This would be allowed to be deabted as there are Lutherans who could qualify as fundamentalists and the do believe in Real Presence.
  3. Once saved always saved - Another open topic for debate.
  4. Grape juice or wine for communion - Perfectly acceptable debate.
  5. Papal infallibility - Off limits, we have no reason to debate this or discuss as it is not taught in any fundamentalist churches

That is a short list. This forum will not be used to denigrate, run down, mock, or otherwise attack other faiths. We have forums where these doctrines can be deabted with members of those faiths, we will not discuss their doctrines in a forum where they cannot respond. That leads to mis-information, hard feelings, and even more division in the body of Christ.
