The Federalist's Ben Domenech on Obama, Biden Oval Office meeting being 'key to entire anti-Trump operation'

The Federalist publisher Ben Domenech appeared on “Media Buzz” on Sunday saying that a January 2017 Oval Office meeting with former Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates, then-FBI Director James Comey, then-Vice President Joe Biden and members of the National Security Council to discuss Russian election interference “proves that we need to be asking questions both of former President Obama and of, frankly, Joe Biden.”

Domenech added that those questions should include “what that meeting entailed, about what they were thinking in this time.”

Newly declassified documents, including an FD-302 FBI witness report, revealed that on Jan. 5, 2017, Yates, Comey, Biden, then-CIA Director John Brennan and then-Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, along with National Security Adviser Susan Rice and other members of the National Security Council, attended the meeting.

In an article published on Friday in The Federalist, "Obama, Biden Oval Office Meeting On January 5 Was Key To Entire Anti-Trump Operation," Mollie Hemingway wrote, “Information released in the Justice Department’s motion to dismiss the case it brought against Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn confirms the significance of a Jan. 5, 2017, meeting at the Obama White House.”

Lol if you are going to take this seriously you oblige yourself to take the Russian investigation on it's own merits also, and there is a little more to that than Trump says so.

It was “The Mueller Report,” reporting these things. I had a memory recall error. I also remember reading, “The Watergate Transcripts,” when I was high school age.

The Democratic National Committee staffer was shot in the back. Was it an assassination, or racial violence? The murder rate in DC is high. I lived a mile from Capitol Hill for four years. Some White people were killed for no apparent reason. The police would have rather called it a robbery gone wrong than a hate crime. I moved to a safer neighborhood.

What leads you to think it's so clear cut? Working for foreign powers, setting up dodgy meetings for the Trump clan, pleading guilty (twice) to lying to the FBI. Seems rather odd to blame it all on the investigators, might want to take your blinkers off Bob.

At the end of 2016, the F.B.I. was winding down an investigation of Russian interference in the Presidential election. But during the transition period after Election Day, American authorities intercepted a phone call between Flynn, who had been a Trump adviser in the campaign, and Sergey Kislyak, who was then the Russian Ambassador to the United States. Afterward, the F.B.I. became aware that Flynn was lying to the public and others about what was said during the call about President Obama’s imposition of sanctions on Russia. (Flynn lied by saying that he had not discussed the sanctions with Kislyak.) In doing so, Flynn had opened himself up to blackmail from the Russians about the contents of the call. To follow up, a pair of F.B.I. agents interviewed Flynn on January 24, 2017, less than a week after he started his job as the national-security adviser. Flynn lied to them, too. Later that year, as the investigation by Mueller continued, Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the agents.

It may not be looking good for Biden, Obama, Comey, etc., but it not because of any alleged exposed corruption, rather we've seen a weaponized DOJ under Barr/Trump. What they've shown so far is they knew Flynn had been lying about the nature of his contacts with Russia and they questioned him for doing so. Flynn continued to lie to the FBI, and cut a deal. He was not "set up", nor was the questioning of him invalid. Investigators withholding information from a witness doesn't invalidate their interrogation, nor does them discussing the goal of that interrogation.

The right hasn't constructed a legitimate defense of Flynn, but simply has used Trump's defense mantra of "bias", which has resonated with his base for so long. It's not a valid defense, but it has been repeated from the top, and now given the guise of authority by a corrupt Attorney General, and Trump's supporters will support anything Trump says, especially when it goes against their enemies: Democrats and the Deep State.
