Paul Pelosi, husband of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, was "violently assaulted" by someone who broke into his San Francisco home early Friday, according to her spokesperson.

The suspect is in custody, her spokesperson, Drew Hammill, said in a statement.

Paul Pelosi is in the hospital and "is expected to make a full recovery," Hammill said.

Nancy Pelosi was not in San Francisco at the time, Hammill said.

The motive is under investigation, he said.

Sources confirm to ABC7 Insider Phil Matier that a hammer was involved and ABC News has confirmed that the break-in is suspected to be targeted.

The suspect allegedly entered through a sliding door while carrying a hammer and was looking for Nancy Pelosi herself.

ABC News reports that Pelosi's injuries are "significant," but according to two familiar sources, he is expected to recover.

The suspect, who was arrested following the early morning Friday break-in, was in search for the prominent Democrat, calling out "Where is Nancy?" the source said.
The 42-year-old suspect was charged with multiple crimes, including attempted homicide, assault with deadly weapon and elder abuse.

The question about home security is a valid one. I was wondering the same thing actually...not because of any conspiracy reasons, just more shocked that they wouldn't have better security in place given her political status, and the fact that Paul Pelosi is pretty wealthy.

I was under the impression Pelosi lived in a gated, closed neighborhood. (And I thought it was the one a few years back where the neighborhood org that owned the private street failed to pay their taxes and someone else bought it at the Sheriff's auction. It may have just been a similar enclosed block.)

The suspect, 42-year-old David Depape, attacked Paul Pelosi with a hammer when officers responded to a priority well-being check at 2:27 a.m. local time, San Francisco police said. Officers tackled the suspect and disarmed him, police said.

Does anyone else think this sounds fishy that police officers are doing a "priority well-being check" at 2:27 a.m. just as someone is breaking into the house with a hammer? I don't know but it smells like Jussie Smollett to me.
