What's a historical SDA? 
Is he/she one who has been with the church since it's inception? Does a reformed SDA mean that one has reformed from another part of Christiandom? Thanks for responses in advance.

Well, the questions you post are the very reasons I posted the poll - for there seems to be a lot of confusion as to what constitutes each branch. For instance, it is my understanding that historical Adventists tend to be much more conservative in their views - they obviously adhere to the same set of doctrines we all do but they do so in a more pious manner (if I may use that word). I could be wrong on this, that's why I'm asking.remnantrob said:What's a historical SDA?
My understanding of "reformed" SDAs is that they tend to view the GC as being corrupt and have all but divorced themselves from any GC guidance. That said, I don't know if they fit the definition of historic or not.
That's why I started this poll - to allow those of other branches to clarify what their branch believes in and why.

No offense taken, Stormy. I just want to know why there are different categories of Adventism. This gives us a chance to share ideas by first defining where we are coming from. If someone is Reformed (for example), I would be curious to know why.StormyOne said:

Thus, no Bible writer just sat down and thought things out. All the points of the Christian faith were "delivered" by revelation. This was as true in the days of our pioneers as in Bible times. Contrary to current mythology, our pioneers did not simply sit down and study out the points of our faith. They were, rather, the recipients of a faith "delivered" by revelation in an experience not significantly different from the experience of the believers referred to by Jude. Let the reader who is startled by this statement consider the data:
Many of our people do not realize how firmly the foundation Of our faith has been laid. My husband, Elder Joseph Bates, Father Pierce, Elder (Hiram) Edson, and others who were keen, noble, and true, were among those who, after the passing of the time in 1844, searched for the truth as for hidden treasure. I met with them, and we studied and prayed earnestly. Often we remained together until late at night, and sometimes through the entire night, praying for light and studying the Word. Again and again these brethren came together to study the Bible, in order that they might know its meaning, and be prepared to teach it with power. When they came to the point in their study where they said, "We can do nothing more," the Spirit of the Lord would come upon me, I would be taken off in vision, and a clear explanation of the passages we had been studying would be given me, with instruction as to how we were to labor and teach effectively. Thus light was given that helped us to understand the scriptures in regard to Christ, His mission, and His priesthood. A line of truth extending from that time to the time when we shall enter the city of God, was made plain to me, and I gave to others the instruction that the Lord had given me. During this whole time I could not understand the reasoning of the brethren. My mind was locked, as it were, and I could not comprehend the meaning of the scriptures we were studying. This was one of the greatest sorrows of my life. I was in this condition of mind until all the principal points of our faith were made clear to our minds, in harmony with the Word of God. Branch Davidians believe they are God's chosen people for the Last Days prior to the end of the world. Because of this they believe that God will always send a prophet to guide them. In this sense they keep to the original spirit of Seventh-day Adventism, where for the first 70 years of its history God was believed to send messages to the Church instructing it and guiding it. Branch Davidians have had five prophets: Ellen White, Victor Houteff, Ben Roden, Lois Roden and David Koresh (although not all of these were Branch Davidians, see the History of Branch Davidians). Currently the group still believe they are being sent messages from God.
Branch Davidians believe God is guiding his Church into more and more truth. They trace this back to the Reformation, with Martin Luther beginning this journey: he was succeeded by Knox, Wesley, Campbell, Miller, then the Seventh-day Adventists, then the Davidian Adventists and finally the Branch Davidians. The Branch Davidian view of Doctrine is therefore very dynamic and evolutionary - they are constantly expecting "New Light" to be shown by God to his/her people. The prophets are the means by which God reveals New Light, but this is always by drawing out the real meaning of texts from the Bible. Hence a prophet does not simply announce a new teaching, it always has to be shown to be what the Bible has taught all along, but people have been "blinded" to.
True Believers are not therefore those who are morally good - Branch Davidians believe that the Bible teaches that no one can be perfect - but those who believe "Present Truth" (the latest teachings from God). It is by constantly following the new teachings from God that the believer will be saved.

Victor T. Houtiff was another conceited man. In 1929, through false interpretations of the Spirit of Prophecy, he be­gan his efforts to obtain a following. Calling his organization, the Shepherd's Rod, in 1941 he renamed it the Davidian Seventh-day Adventist Church.
The present writer recently prepared an in-depth history of that organization. It became apparent that, what Houtiff and his successors did, was to appeal to pride in the follow­ers. By doing so, they could fill their followers with the cap­tivating devils they themselves were possessed of. We have received a number of letters from believers who have told of interviews they have had with Davidianswho told them that they would soon reign as kings and priests over the earth, but first they must slay the unfaithful Adventists. The offer of eventual kingship and queenship came wrapped up in a package of conceit, which required murder to obtain. In order to gain the offer, the intention to murder must be accepted. By accepting it, the demon of conceit enters the heart.
A similar transaction occurs whenever a person binds him­self to an arrogant leader.
Because he had predicted that he would not die before the Second Advent occurred, Houtiff's death in 1955 greatly shook his followers. The leaders, in a desperate effort to hold the group together, published a time prophecy, which failed. The Rod collapsed on March 11, 1962, but other conceited men arose who gathered the remnants of the Davidians to themselves. One was Benjamin F. Rodin. A later one was David Koresh. (See our booklet, Waco and the Davidians, for more on this.)
