No, they depend on the events of the six creation days being true."Wise acknowledged that the majority of Christians and even the majority of conservative evangelicals believe the world is older than 7,000 years, but he argued many of the foundational doctrines of the Bible -- such as marriage, the literal fall of man, the necessity of a Savior and the end times -- depend on belief in a young earth."
I have to take issue with a fundamental position that Dr. Wise is making:No, they depend on the events of the six creation days being true.
This is independent of whether the universe and the primitive planet existed before "day one" (Genesis 1:3).
Far too often the age of the "primitive earth" and "upper heavens" are lumped together with the "young earth" doctrine, and this in my opinion is a critical mistake.
This might seem like a minor detail that is not worth debating since it doesn't affect ones salvation. But what about having a sound foundational doctrine from which to build and share with others. If you have the first part wrong (or accept it without critical analysis) how can we expect to successfully convince others.
The age of the formation of continents, our atmosphere and all the original biology, and the position of the sun and moon are ALL separate from God's works of old, which include the upper heavens and the raw materials of the earth, and that distinction needs to be made.
I don't quite understand your last paragraph, but I consider the tenants of macro-evolution to be the works of Satan. What better way to errode God's word and peoples faith in a creator. The essential part is whether God can make a paradise where we can be with Him or whether He can't. I think this is consistent with both Mr. Wise and what you have suggested. I suspect that Mr. Wise would allow your challenge.
If it takes millions of years of death through natural selection, then death is our companion and the one who teaches us and makes us better by ridding the earth of us.
