I have been a Christian all my life but now people have been saying you need to be born again to be saved.

We teamed up with Faith Counseling. Can they help you today?

Do you know if you have the Holy Spirit in you? That's what it means to be born again. Going to church doesn't make you born again. Repentance from sin is the prerequisite. Acts 2:38

Yes. Quite definitely. Here is the proof:
'Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. 2 This man came to Jesus[a] by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.” 3 Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” 4 Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?” 5 Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.[c] 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You[d] must be born again.’ 8 The wind[e] blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”(John 3:1-8).

To be born again is simply to bear our cross and deny our desire and dignity.

For example : pray for your enemies
Matt 5:44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,
46If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Do not even tax collectors do the same?…

Yes if you are not born again you will die in your sins .

    How to be born again?

    Acts 16:30-31

30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

If you believe then you have Holy Spirit living inside of you and it's free gift of God not by works , cleaned from all sin by Jesus Blood .

    Ephesians 2:8-9
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.

    1 Peter 1:18-19

    18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

    Ephesians 1:13

In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

This is the important part, yet everyone skips over it and does not understand its true meaning...

No it doesn't. There are 2 births and 2 possible deaths...you are born physically and you die physically...prerequisites to being born again...you are born again spiritually and can die spiritually in the 2nd death...belief in Yeshua will spare you from the 2nd death

Yes, to be saved you will be born again...it is NOT what they think it means...you need to read the ENTIRE verse...

That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit

    Romans 10:9
...if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

Are you saying you must die physically BEFORE you can become born again? If so, read Romans 6. I may have not understood what you are saying, for the scripture is clear.

What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? 3 Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

And the way we experienced this resurrection was through the Holy Spirit indwelling us. If we had repented from sin, that is. Those who just go to church, but live their lives with no power over sin, are the walking dead. They know all about Jesus, but haven't made Him the Lord of their lives, just as the demons do and tremble.

Repentance was taught in the 1st century. It was a given. Today, not so much, especially in liturgical churches that formed directly from the Reformation. But later there was an awakening, probably through men like Jonathan Edwards though I haven't read his works yet. When the Church gets out of balance, God seems to send an extremist to get the pendulum swinging the other way. ;)

...that is the seed planted, but that seed must die first...to be raised
    1 Corinthians 15:36
So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption. it is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual. Howbeit that is not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural, THEN that which is spirit. The first man is of the earth, earthy: the second man is of heaven. And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I tell you a mystery: We all shall not sleep, but we shall all be changed.
You MUST be born of water and of the spirit...
No one can enter the Kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit.
Flesh is born of flesh, but spirit is born of the Spirit...

1 Corinthians 15: 31 I affirm, by the boasting in you which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die daily.

He is talking about our nature, not our bodies.

Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen:
And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain. Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not. For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised: And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain; ye are yet in your sins. Then they also which are fallen asleep in Christ are perished. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. For since by man came death, by man came also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive. But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming. Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power. For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death.

What is the purpose of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit? Is that only after we die?

Of course not. You are confusing 2 SEPARATE but CONNECTED things. Most people make the same mistake.

And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.

    Good, brother.

This is how I look at it, and you may agree.

Our spirit and nature is reborn. In other words, our thoughts. Our spirit goes from mortal to immortal; then after our body dies, it too must put on immortality at the second coming of Christ and the resurrection of the Dead.

    Do you agree?

The Spirit is the seed implanted in us here, it then blooms after death. We are born again!

Then what about the question of sin? Can you sin with that seed planted in you?

    .

    The verse says.

    Rom. 6:4
Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

    Gal. 2:20
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

This Newness life of which is spoken of, takes place upon the event of our Baptism, we are Regenerated through the process of Baptism, we are given the Indwelling of the Spirit, becoming (Born Again) having been raised from the dead with Christ.

    Rom. 8:11
But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

Your talking about the Resurrection of the dead unto in-corruption, and becoming Born Again as though they were the same event, your mixing verses together which do not go together.

You say the seed planted must die first, does this mean, Holy Spirit dies in us once implanted, and does not bloom until we die physically?
