. . . you wear a watch on your right arm to show that you are engaged (if you are a female), or you give your fiancee an engagement watch instead of a ring (if you are a male).

That was one of the oddest things that I noticed when I went to an Adventist college. I had never heard of engagement watches before that.

My wife and I did the watch thing when we were engaged in 2000-2001.

We also opted not to do wedding rings (decided to err on the safe side back then). We've long since let go of the later restriction, but have never gotten around to actually buying them.
