"Son of David" is a Messianic title in fulfillment of Old Testament prophecy.

    2 Samuel 7:12-16. NIV
12 When your days are over and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up your offspring to succeed you, your own flesh and blood, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 He is the one who will build a house for my Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 14 I will be his father, and he will be my son. When he does wrong, I will punish him with a rod wielded by men, with floggings inflicted by human hands. 15 But my love will never be taken away from him, as I took it away from Saul, whom I removed from before you. 16 Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me; your throne will be established forever.’”

    Luke 2:4
So Joseph also went up from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to Bethlehem the town of David, because he belonged to the house and line of David.

    Matthew 1:1
[ The Genealogy of Jesus the Messiah ] This is the genealogy of Yahshua the Messiah the son of David, the son of Abraham:

    Matthew 1:20
But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.

    Matthew 9:27
[ Jesus Heals the Blind and the Mute ] As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed him, calling out, “Have mercy on us, Son of David!”

    Matthew 12:23
All the people were astonished and said, “Could this be the Son of David?”

    Matthew 15:22
A Canaanite woman from that vicinity came to him, crying out, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on me! My daughter is demon-possessed and suffering terribly.

    Matthew 20:30
Two blind men were sitting by the roadside, and when they heard that Jesus was going by, they shouted, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!”

    Matthew 20:31
The crowd rebuked them and told them to be quiet, but they shouted all the louder, “Lord, Son of David, have mercy on us!”

    Matthew 21:9
The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed shouted, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Hosanna in the highest heaven!”

    Matthew 21:15
But when the chief priests and the teachers of the law saw the wonderful things he did and the children shouting in the temple courts, “Hosanna to the Son of David,” they were indignant.

    Matthew 22:42
“What do you think about the Messiah? Whose son is he?” “The son of David,” they replied.

    Mark 10:47
When he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to shout, “Yahshua, Son of David, have mercy on me!”

    Mark 10:48
Many rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”

    Mark 12:35
[ Whose Son Is the Messiah? ] While Jesus was teaching in the temple courts, he asked, “Why do the teachers of the law say that the Messiah is the son of David?

    Luke 3:31
the son of Melea, the son of Menna, the son of Mattatha, the son of Nathan, the son of David,

    Luke 18:38
He called out, “Yahshua, Son of David, have mercy on me!”

    Luke 18:39
Those who led the way rebuked him and told him to be quiet, but he shouted all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!”

    Luke 20:41
[ Whose Son Is the Messiah? ] Then Yahshua said to them, “Why is it said that the Messiah is the son of David?

    Isaiah 16:5
In love a throne will be established; in faithfulness a man will sit on it— one from the house of David— one who in judging seeks justice and speeds the cause of righteousness.
    Isaiah 22:22
I will place on his shoulder the key to the house of David; what he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open.

    Jeremiah 23:5
“The days are coming,” declares the LORD, “when I will raise up for David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land.

    Jeremiah 30:9
Instead, they will serve the LORD their God and David their king, whom I will raise up for them.

    Jeremiah 33:17
For this is what the LORD says: ‘David will never fail to have a man to sit on the throne of Israel,

    Jeremiah 33:21
then my covenant with David my servant—and my covenant with the Levites who are priests ministering before me—can be broken and David will no longer have a descendant to reign on his throne.

    Jeremiah 33:22
I will make the descendants of David my servant and the Levites who minister before me as countless as the stars in the sky and as measureless as the sand on the seashore.’”

    Ezekiel 34:23
I will place over them one shepherd, my servant David, and he will tend them; he will tend them and be their shepherd.

    Ezekiel 34:24
I the LORD will be their God, and my servant David will be prince among them. I the LORD have spoken.

    Ezekiel 37:24
“‘My servant David will be king over them, and they will all have one shepherd. They will follow my laws and be careful to keep my decrees.

    Ezekiel 37:25
They will live in the land I gave to my servant Jacob, the land where your ancestors lived. They and their children and their children’s children will live there forever, and David my servant will be their prince forever.

    Hosea 3:5
Afterward the Israelites will return and seek the LORD their God and David their king. They will come trembling to the LORD and to his blessings in the last days.

    Zechariah 12:10
[ Mourning for the One They Pierced ] “And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son.

    Rom 1:3. Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh;

Rom 1:4. And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:

    Yahshua is David's lord.

The bible says that Christ is a son of David (The King.) Joseph was also a royal descendant of David. I presume that God made Christ body after the lineage of King David.
    Jeremiah 33:17
For this is what the Lord says: ‘David will never fail to have a man to sit on the throne of Israel,

    Jeremiah 33:18
nor will the Levitical priests ever fail to have a man to stand before me continually to offer burnt offerings, to burn grain offerings and to present sacrifices.’

You think that Christ was a Levite?

Heb 7:14 For it is clear that our Lord descended from Judah, and in regard to that tribe Moses said nothing about priests.

Was Christ a Pharisee? Why did the Pharisees call Christ Rabbi? Was Christ one of their own? No one seems to know for certain.

bcbsr asked if you think Yeshua was a Levite. You didn't answer the question.

This is a symptom I see constantly here.

Why don't people answer directly? Yeshua even said "Let your yes be yes, and your no be no" but it does not appear the users of this forum agree with him.

Can't you hear the frustration in Yeshua's statement? How he is clearly tired of dealing with people who don't give direct answers? Why should we subject anyone to such frustration?

Dodging questions is a wonderful way of letting people know that there is no point in interacting with you.

I do not think Yahshua was a Levite priest, but for certain, he was a priest and teacher.

First of all "Pharisee" is not a tribe of Isreal but a sect of Judaism. Secondly "Rabbi" means teacher and again is not limited to a particular tribe of Israel.

The Jewish priesthood was limited to the descendants of Aaron, which means it's limited to a particular group of Levites, which Jesus wasn't. The book of Hebrews chapters 5 to 7 cover Jesus' priesthood and makes a point of this, that Jesus wasn't a Levitical priest.

This is hotly debated, but I’m of the belief that Mary’s lineage through her father, Joseph, is listed in Matthew 1, and not in Luke 3.

If you count the number of generations (14) as given in Matthew 1, it’s not correct if the Joseph listed is her husband. It only makes sense that the Joseph listed here is her father, and not her husband, as most manuscripts say “husband”. Count the generations.

14 generations between Abraham and David
14 generations between Solomon & Jeconiah
14 generations from this Shealtiel to Messiah
In the last chart, if the Joseph listed is her husband, Christ would be the 13th generation from Babylon, and not 14th. According to Matthew, there are 14 generations.

    Matthew 1:17 NIV
Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Messiah.

Both lineages can't be about the same man because they are 2 different lineages.

I was just researching this the other day.

Matthew is Mary's genealogy but has been incorrectly translated into English. This is why Jews don't believe Yeshua is the Messiah. You have to go to the Hebrew text of Matthew which predates the Greek in order to find that the Joseph mentioned in Matthew is not Joseph, Mary's husband.

I first heard this from Michael Rood and started to research the subject.

The blog below explains it well and has a photo of the Hebrew text of Matthew.

[ Given the enormity and complexity of this issue, I wish to provide only a very basic overall here of the incredible insights and truth that Uriel Ben Mordechai in particular, and even others like A.B. (Bruce) Barham and Nehemia Gordon, have found and shared on this whole question.]

In Matthew’s genealogy (which shows that Jesus was a descendant of King David) we read:

“Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile to Babylon, and fourteen from the exile to the Messiah.” (Mathew 1:17).

The numerical value of the Hebrew characters forming the name of the great King of Israel – David (דוד) is 14.

    This is how it works 14 = (4) ד (4) + ו (6) + ד

Matthew uses genealogy to intentionally tie Jesus to David numerically (through a gematria of 14) three times. His point is that Jesus is the son of David, i.e. the Messiah.
