According to REVELATION.13:11-18 & 14:9-11, a day is "coming soon" when the world's governments will require all to receive the Mark of the Beast or computer chip implants, in order to be able to buy and sell stuffs. Those who reject this government law/regulation will be prosecuted/persecuted/mocked or left to starve to death.(cf; ROMANS.12:19-21)
....... Here is where Christian believers will have to lay down their lives for Jesus, in order to be saved from hell when they die.

Thereafter, Jesus Christ will return to earth to exact His vengeance upon the unbelievers/government-persecutors/mockers, as per 1THESS.4:16 and REV.6-9.

P S - During the 1st Advent of Jesus to earth, nearly all the apostles were martyred for their faith, ie for refusing to renounce God/Jesus and worship the Roman Emperor.

The prophetic event at MATT.24:15 and LUKE.21:20 described by Jesus Christ at around 30AD, had already come to passed in 70AD when Jerusalem and the Holy Temple of God was destroyed by the Roman Army. Why and what happened.? ...

JOHN.6:15 says that the Jews desired for a Messiah/Christ who would "save" them from foreign rule, ie by defeating the Roman Army and give them back their kingdom of earth = Israel/Judah, similar to the heroics of King David or Commander Joshua of Nun.
....... After most of the Jews and Pharisees had rejected Jesus of Nazareth as the Christ/Messiah and caused Him to be crucified by the Roman rulers through false accusations(eg accused as a rebel "King of the Jews"), the Jews raised up false christs(MATT.24:24) for themselves to lead them into armed rebellion against the Roman "occupiers" or colonizers = the Jewish-Roman Wars.

One of the counter measures was the Roman Emperor issuing a decree requiring all his subjects in Judea to worship him as God. Hence, an idol statue of the Emperor was set up in the Holy Place, ie the "abomination of desolation", for the Jews and Christians to worship or pledge allegiance.
