The Presidency going to the one who garners the most votes and the Vice Presidency to the second.

Think about it. The two parties would be forced to work together. It would change the dynamics of the Presidency in a number of ways.

President, head of the executive branch and VP President of the Senate.

No. Senate pres is meaningless except for exceedingly rare ties. So I dont think this would actually accomplish much meaningful. VP would just get dispatched to foreign head of state funerals and ribbon cuttings and basically be even less relevant than currently.

No. That would simply extend the bickering into the post-election period of time. And it wouldn't make the VP, as President of the Senate, the 'major domo' of the Senate. That person would still be the majority leader.

Plus, if the President were to die, it would mandate that the opposition party, in the person of the VP, take over the Presidency. That wouldn't be very fair to the voters.

Absolutely not for reasons explained in post number 5

That was changed in 1803 with the 12th Amendment. Having a President from one party and a VP from another party doesn't work as was shown in 1796. You also had the problem when the intended VP almost beat the intended President--that happened in 1800.

Had this been in place in 2016, Donald would not have lived long enough to complete his inauguration speech -- the snipers would've outnumbered the supporters (which they probably did anyway, given the paltry crowd size)

In all fairness, had she won, Hillary most likely would've caught a bullet at approximately the same time.

It was also a problem when they opposed each other virulently as with Adams and Jefferson.

That's why John Adams was vice President.

As I’ve posted before, I want to change the nomination process. Presidential candidates should be chosen by the voters in a national primary election. There will be a cost for this that the states will have to cover. But who runs for President should be decided by the people—not by parties, or activists, or big money interests, or political bases. And eviscerating their influence in our elections will be worth every penny.

Are we talking citizens votes or electoral votes? If it were then Hillary Clinton would be President and I would be perfectly happy with that. However with Donald Trump as VP the power struggle at the top would be monumental.

I assumed votes. Because that what it said. So actually I'm changing my mind and supporting this, if its the price for eliminating the EC.

As it was before the 12th Amendment it was electoral votes. James Wilson wanted the President to be elected by popular votes but he got outvoted. BTW, it was Wilson who put the words “We the People” into the Constitution.

Hint: Trump would have been vice-President under a Hillary Clinton Administration

Donald could do ribbon cuttings on golf courses and maybe a job related reality show where he could harangue his staff. Call it "Veep".

Power struggles between the two are probably good reason not to take up on this suggestion.
