Well, it depends. I think had they diverted more resources to the USSR attack and actually succeeded, destroy the German war machine would have been incredibly difficult for the Allies. They would have controlled so much land and so many industrial resources it would have been incredible. On the other hand, like you guys have said, if they had not attacked the USSR they could have probably defended against any invasion on the Western front.

I think the urge of capturing the USSR was just too great to deny. Their alliance with the Japanese would have been much more notable because they would both control essentially the entire Asian continent. So, I intially voted no but I now change it to yes.

Strategically they made a lot of mistakes, but I do have to give it to them. Tactically they were very effective.

Well luckily they didn't, or even more people would have been deemed unfit to live and been sent to their murder industry.

Was it only white people in perfect health that were considered "good" enough? All crippled, mentally handicapped and all other "races" would have ended up in their concetration camps.

Hmm I doubt even the nazis would have managed to kill that many people, perhaps they would instead have been used as slave labor.

Ugh... they actually wore far worse than saddam...

It was my understanding that they did use the Jews, for one as slave labor. if I recall, a few years ago there was talk of a class action suit against Volkswagen and maybe even a few other German companies to compensate the ancestors of victims that made Volkswagen richer through slave labor.
Oh, and my vote was yes, Germany could have won the war. if they had waited to attack Russia until their victory over Britian was secure, they would have been in a very good position to eventually take out Russia as well.

Yep Hitler could have won hands down. But he was insain. He wanted to control everything himself and wasted all his time building tanks and ignoring the effectivness of a soild airforce. Hitler had everything on his side: A strong ally that wanted to prove itself, the benifit of surprise, great propaganda, and loyal followers (mostly caused by his propaganda).

If Germany had not defended Japan, and Charles Lindberg was used as a spokesman on their behalf keeping America out of the European theater. Yes Germany could have won the war regardles as to who opposed them. Don't forget that they were not far from having the bomb before the US did.

It's very unlikely according to war experts that an invasion of England would had been successful. When the allies invaded france in 1944 so much had to go in to it that later after the war even Germans had doults if they could have done it in 1940.
The Royal navy had the upper hand still in the Engish channel at the time Hitler was going to invade and Churhhill had a secret plain to set the coast line alight with oil.
The battle of Britain was not the whole story and i say thank God for the English channel because if it had not been there i would not be here today typing this!

Attacking the USSR was not the mistake, in fact it was essential. The mistake was not listening to his Generals. Hitler did not possess strategic thought. He did not understand air superiority and how essential it was to have it. Had he held air superiority he would not have had to attack Britain to defeat her, and the Royal Navy would have been rendered impotent.

If the Luftwaffe had kept up the bombing of England's industrial and military buildings, instead of switching to civilian bombing, it would have knocked England out real fast.

Had Hitler invaded Russia in mid-April, once the steppes were frozen, a Nazi flag would have been flying over the Kremlin.

But had Germany tried to invade the US, they would have been beaten. The high rate of US gun ownership, coupled with the many different landscapes we have in the US, would make it nigh-on impossible for any nation to invade the US, ever, even during the Depression.

The hardest part for Germany woulda been trying to maintain an effective fighting force at such a long distance (especially considering that she'd have such vulnerable supply lines) and she wouldn't of been able to use her V2s like she did across the Channel. Those factors woulda been the nail in Hitler's coffin if he'd tried to invade America.

Rates of gun ownership wouldn't of made any difference.

They could have won it in a number of ways:

1) Developed an atomic bomb first.
2) Stayed neutral with Russia.
3) Or attacked Russia 1-2 months earlier.

BUT, the idea of WORLD domination is out of the question. Without the 'bomb', the U.S., or England for that matter, would never have fallen with conventional weaponary. There best bet would be to have controlled the Europe mainland and a large chunk of Russia and the Middle East. Then they would have had to put up with resistance from within.

I think that Britain's actions in giving up it's empire for sake of putting everything into the war was great thing to have done.

I think if the battle of Britain had been lost, things would have been very different and the German's could have easily won it

not to forget the homosexuals and the socialists/communists.

and, yes, of course they used the inmates of concentration camps as slave labor.

"what if"- questions are useless in my opinion. but i think germany could not have won the war, because the greed of the nazis was unlimited. they wouldn´t stop until they had conquered the whole world. this would have been impossible imo.

beware of anyone who claims superiority!
