It's a common talking point on the Left and since this is a Conservative forum most of the opposition we get on these issues come from that side of the aisle. I was active in the Trump campaign and I interacted with a lot of Evangelicals who worked and prayed hard for the President. To say that they were praying "to" him is an unnecessary insult.

Define recent? There's instances of Satanism that are thousands of years old. This hedonistic/Atheist blend started in the 1960's but it draws inspiration from far older traditions.
