There was no journalistic integrity in asking the questions in the first place. It's not the WH press secretary's job to ask questions of reporters, in fact that is the diametric opposite of her job. Having said that, why would any decent journalist ask questions about this vapid and purile conspiracy theory of Omama, or even Obama? If some wingnut claims Obama hid the fact the earth is flat, running to Obama to ask why is not the follow up, pointing and laughing is.

Seems inevitable. When you have an administration that revolves around a character so fundamentally fraudulent, the only options for his representatives are to speak honestly (and do themselves out of a job) or to try and force people to engage in the fantasy, as if it were real. I’m not sure if there is an apt analogy, the emperor’s new clothes involves an outsider deluding the emperor, whereas here the emperor is the one bringing the delusion. 1984 doesn’t really work either, not really far enough along yet for that. I suppose the closest thing in fiction would be the queen of heart’s court from Alice in Wonderland.

You support a man who has led the charge to destroy truth in the public sphere. He doesn't care about truth, he will abandon it at any moment to suit his own needs, and he will lie instinctively and without even a seconds thought.
