Will the Jerusalem Temple ever be rebuilt?

Jesus prophesied that the Jerusalem Temple would be destroyed within a generation, and it was. Jewish rebels began a war against the Romans in A.D. 66, and four years later the temple lay in ruins.

Will it ever be rebuilt? Many Jews and Christians think so, even claiming that this must happen in order for certain prophecies to be fulfilled.

What did you think? The whole rebuilding the temple thing has always confused me.

There isn't a third coming or forth coming. There's only the First Coming which happened and the Second Coming which we await. The thousand year reign mentioned in Rev. 20 has to do with the time of the Church and the saints who have died and who wait in Heaven for the Last Judgment. At the time of Jesus' Second Coming, the saints in Heaven will receive their body again but in a glorified form when God raises them up from their graves. And Jesus Christ's reign will be forever when he returns.

I just find it interesting that the Church really does not have an official position concerning these things.

Personally, I think it is only a matter of time until the Temple is rebuilt.

Orthodox Judaism demands that there be a Temple in order to fulfill the law. Not that there is sin without it. But that's the idea, so for them it should be striven for.

Orthodox Jews are the fastest growing segment in Israel today, largely because they are not only immigrants, but they have by far the largest families. It's only a matter of time before they become the ruling block of the Knesset.

It will be gradual. The first thing we will see is Jews being allowed to pray on the Temple Mount.

Personally, I hope something mutually peaceful will be found, a way for both the Temple and the present Mosque to co-exist.

As a Bible believing Catholic, I cannot read the Prophets without seeing that a Third Temple is inevitable, that there will be a Messianic age during which a Temple will exist.

Many believe that when they see the Nukes come streaming in, they will be singing, ‘Here comes Jesus!’ (at the end of the world). I do not hold this view.

From the Exodus to the fall of Israel (Judah) in 587 B.C., God was present, in His Temple, and He was King over Israel. God Ruled over Israel, with and through, His Priests, Prophets and kings of Israel.

    Psalms 114:1
When Israel came forth from Egypt, the house of Jacob from an alien people, Judah became God's holy place, Israel, God's domain.

    Deuteronomy 33:1
This is the blessing which Moses, the man of God, pronounced upon the Israelites before he died. He said: "The LORD came from Sinai and dawned on his people from Seir; He shone forth from Mount Paran and advanced from Meribath-kadesh, While at his right hand a fire blazed forth and his wrath devastated the nations. But all his holy ones were in his hand; they followed at his feet and he bore them up on his pinions. A law he gave to us; he made the community of Jacob his domain, and he became king of his darling.

Right before Jesus ascended into heaven, the Apostles wanted to know “What about the great Kingdom, You, the prophesized Messiah, is to give to us, the Jewish people?" I paraphrase a bit. But I think they were a little confused as to how Jesus could be leaving without doing what scriptures had raved about Him, the Messiah, coming to do, which is to Restore the Kingdom of Israel on earth.

    Acts of the Apostles 1:6
When they had gathered together they asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?” He answered them, “It is not for you to know the times or seasons that the Father has established by his own authority. But you will receive power when the holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” When he had said this, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him from their sight.

Jesus will Come to Rule the world, but He will come as the Father came to Rule over Israel, not as an individual in the flesh as He came to die on the cross for our sins. Apocalyptic scriptures talk in great length about the glory of Zion, which is the Restored Kingdom of Israel. Jesus tells us that He will destroy the Jewish Temple, built of stone, and rebuild a Temple, not built of stone, in three days. I say Jesus is going to Come to dwell in the human body of His Church, rather than a stone temple, when He comes to Restore Israel and His Temple within Israel. The Restored Kingdom of Israel, Zion, will be the Catholic Church, which will metamorphosis into the Restored Kingdom of Israel, Zion, upon Jesus' Coming to Rule the world. The world will see Jesus, through all the miracles, signs and wonders, shining forth from Zion/the Catholic Church, and the nations will stream to the Catholic Church/Zion, to be with Jesus, in His Kingdom Come.

Please look at the similarities between when God Comes to Israel at Sini, and scriptures describing Jesus Second Coming.

    Revelation 1:4
John, to the seven churches in Asia: grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come, and from the seven spirits before his throne, and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead and ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, who has made us into a kingdom, priests for his God and Father, to him be glory and power forever [and ever]. Amen.

Behold, he is coming amid the clouds,
and every eye will see him,
    even those who pierced him.
All the peoples of the earth will lament him.

    Yes. Amen.
“I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “the one who is and who was and who is to come, the almighty.”

    Exodus 19:1
Arrival at Sinai. In the third month after the Israelites’ departure from the land of Egypt, on the first day, they came to the wilderness of Sinai. After they made the journey from Rephidim and entered the wilderness of Sinai, they then pitched camp in the wilderness.

While Israel was encamped there in front of the mountain, Moses went up to the mountain of God. Then the LORD called to him from the mountain, saying: This is what you will say to the house of Jacob; tell the Israelites: You have seen how I treated the Egyptians and how I bore you up on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. Now, if you obey me completely and keep my covenant, you will be my treasured possession among all peoples, though all the earth is mine. You will be to me a kingdom of priests, a holy nation. That is what you must tell the Israelites. So Moses went and summoned the elders of the people. When he set before them all that the LORD had ordered him to tell them, all the people answered together, “Everything the LORD has said, we will do.” Then Moses brought back to the LORD the response of the people.

The LORD said to Moses: I am coming to you now in a dense cloud, so that when the people hear me speaking with you, they will also remain faithful to you.

When Moses, then, had reported the response of the people to the LORD, the LORD said to Moses: Go to the people and have them sanctify themselves today and tomorrow. Have them wash their garments and be ready for the third day; for on the third day the LORD will come down on Mount Sinai in the sight of all the people. Set limits for the people all around, saying: Take care not to go up the mountain, or even to touch its edge. All who touch the mountain must be put to death. No hand shall touch them, but they must be stoned to death or killed with arrows. Whether human being or beast, they must not be allowed to live. Only when the ram’s horn sounds may they go up on the mountain. Then Moses came down from the mountain to the people and had them sanctify themselves, and they washed their garments. He said to the people, “Be ready for the third day. Do not approach a woman.”

The Great Theophany. On the morning of the third day there were peals of thunder and lightning, and a heavy cloud over the mountain, and a very loud blast of the shofar, so that all the people in the camp trembled. But Moses led the people out of the camp to meet God, and they stationed themselves at the foot of the mountain. Now Mount Sinai was completely enveloped in smoke, because the LORD had come down upon it in fire. The smoke rose from it as though from a kiln, and the whole mountain trembled violently. The blast of the shofar grew louder and louder, while Moses was speaking and God was answering him with thunder.

Matthew 24:29 The Coming of the Son of Man.
“Immediately after the tribulation of those days, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming upon the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

    NAB3 REV 11:17
“We give thanks to you, Lord God almighty, who are and who were. For you have assumed your great power and have established your reign. The nations raged, but your wrath has come, and the time for the dead to be judged, and to recompense your servants, the prophets, and the holy ones and those who fear your name, the small and the great alike, and to destroy those who destroy the earth.” Then God’s temple in heaven was opened, and the ark of his covenant could be seen in the temple. There were flashes of lightning, rumblings, and peals of thunder, an earthquake, and a violent hailstorm.

Exodus continued: When the LORD came down upon Mount Sinai, to the top of the mountain, the LORD summoned Moses to the top of the mountain, and Moses went up. Then the LORD told Moses: Go down and warn the people not to break through to the LORD in order to see him; otherwise many of them will be struck down. For their part, the priests, who approach the LORD must sanctify themselves; else the LORD will break out in anger against them. But Moses said to the LORD, “The people cannot go up to Mount Sinai, for you yourself warned us, saying: Set limits around the mountain to make it sacred.” So the LORD said to him: Go down and come up along with Aaron. But do not let the priests and the people break through to come up to the LORD; else he will break out against them.” So Moses went down to the people and spoke to them.

    NAB3 JOH 2:18
“What sign can you show us for doing this?” Jesus answered and said to them, “Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up.” The Jews said, “This temple has been under construction for forty-six years, and you will raise it up in three days?”

    NAB MAT 26:61
"This man has declared, 'I can destroy God's temple and rebuild it in three days'"... ...Soon you will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of the Power and coming on the clouds of heaven.

The ‘You will be to me a kingdom of priests, a holy nation that God hoped, but failed, to attain in the nation Israel, will come to fulfillment when Jesus Comes again and enters into His Catholic Church/Zion, upon His Second Coming.

Common! All Christ has done on earth for the past 2000 years has been with and through His Church, the Catholic Church. Does anyone really think that Jesus is going to Rebuild a Jewish Temple, built of stone, and reside in physical nation Israel, on earth? Jesus will destroy the Jewish religion on earth, when He comes to Reside, on earth, and Rule the world, from His Temple, the Catholic Church. When the Jews see Jesus in His Glory, they will convert, be baptized and join Jesus, with us Catholics. There will no longer be a Jewish Temple or religion, when Jesus returns.

    Zechariah 12:9
On that day I will seek the destruction of all nations that come against Jerusalem. I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and petition; and they shall look on him whom they have thrust through, and they shall mourn for him as one mourns for an only son, and they shall grieve over him as one grieves over a first-born.

When Jesus Comes in His Power and Glory the Jewish people are going to realize that they messed up Big Time. In Ezekiel, God says that the city is the kettle and He is going to take Jewish leaders out of the kettle, but leave the Jewish people. God says that He is going to give Judah a new heart to replace her stony heart. Jesus says He is going to smash Jewish leadership. Hello fellow Catholics, the Catholic Church, Christ’s Church is going to be the Restored Temple of God! When Jesus Comes in His Power and Glory the Jewish people are going to repent, seek absolution, become baptized, and join us, Christ’s Church, the Catholic Church, to be with Jesus!

Jesus is not really going to smash Jewish leaders and their children against some rocks; Jesus is going to smash the Jewish religion to smithereens. Jesus is going to put new tenants, the Catholic Church, over His Jewish people, and get rid of the old tenants, the Jewish Church, who failed, and killed Him. When Jesus Comes in His Power and Glory, there is going to be a huge power change on earth. The Blessed Mother says it is all Catholic in the Golden Era of mankind, which is coming soon. Jesus does not need a restored Jewish Temple to reside in when He Returns as God. There are not going to be Jewish priests and leaders, or a Jewish Temple. Jesus is going to reside in the body of His Church, the Catholic Church.

I have some scripture on when God exited the stone temple of Jerusalem. Jesus, Who is God, is not Coming back to reside in a rebuilt, stone, Jewish Temple. It is all Catholic upon Christ’s return.

Ezekiel 10:1 God's Glory leaves Jerusalem
I saw there the glory of the God of Israel, like the vision I had seen in the plain. The cherubim were stationed to the right of the temple; these were the living creatures I had seen beneath the God of Israel by the river Chebar, whom I now recognized to be cherubim.//...

...//I looked and saw in the firmament above the cherubim what appeared to be sapphire stone; something like a throne could be seen upon it. He said to the man dressed in linen: Go within the wheelwork under the cherubim; fill both your hands with burning coals from among the cherubim, then scatter them over the city. As I looked on, he entered. The glory of the God of Israel had gone up from the cherubim, upon which it had been, to the threshold of the temple. As the man entered, the cloud filled the inner court, and the glory of the LORD rose from over the cherubim to the threshold of the temple; the temple was filled with the cloud, and all the court was bright with the glory of the LORD. The noise of the wings of the cherubim could be heard as far as the outer court; it was like the voice of God the Almighty when he speaks. When he had commanded the man dressed in linen to take fire from within the wheelwork, among the cherubim, the man entered and stood by one of the wheels. Thereupon its cherub stretched out his hand toward the fire that was among the cherubim. He took up some of it and put it in the hands of the one dressed in linen, who took it and came out. (Something like human hands could be seen under the wings of the cherubim.) Then the glory of the LORD left the threshold of the temple and rested upon the cherubim. These lifted their wings, and I saw them rise from the earth, the wheels rising along with them. They stood at the entrance of the eastern gate of the LORD’S house, and the glory of the God of Israel was up above them. Then the cherubim lifted their wings, and the wheels went along with them, while up above them was the glory of the God of Israel. And the glory of the LORD rose from the city and took a stand on the mountain which is to the east of the city.

    Ezekiel Chapter 11

Spirit lifted me up and brought me to the east gate of the temple. At the entrance of the gate I saw twenty-five men, among whom were Jaazaniah, son of Azzur, and Pelatiah, son of Benaiah, princes of the people. The LORD said to me: Son of man, these are the men who are planning evil and giving wicked counsel in this city. “Shall we not,” they say, “be building houses soon? The city is the kettle, and we are the meat.” Therefore prophesy against them, son of man, prophesy! Then the spirit of the LORD fell upon me, and he told me to say: Thus says the LORD: This is the way you talk, house of Israel, and what you are plotting I well know. You have slain many in this city and have filled its streets with your slain. Therefore thus says the Lord GOD: Your slain whom you have placed within it, they are the meat, and the city is the kettle; but you I will take out of it.

    Matthew 23:12
Whoever exalts himself will be humbled; but whoever humbles himself will be exalted. “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites. You lock the kingdom of heaven before human beings. You do not enter yourselves, nor do you allow entrance to those trying to enter.

EZE 11 Continued: You fear the sword, but the sword I will bring upon you, says the Lord GOD. I will bring you out of the city, and hand you over to foreigners, and inflict punishments upon you. By the sword you shall fall; at the boundaries of Israel I will judge you; thus you shall know that I am the LORD. The city shall not be a kettle for you, nor shall you be the meat within it. At the boundaries of Israel I will judge you, and you shall know that I am the LORD, by whose statutes you have not lived, and whose ordinances you have not kept; rather, you have acted according to the ordinances of the nations around you.

The 'meat', being talked about in Ezekiel, are the people of the tribes of Israel. The 'kettle' is the Church of Israel. The leaders of Israel have filled their 'cities', which is the Church of Israel, with dead people by prophsizing to them falsly. The false prophets of Israel will not be a part of the meat in the kettle in the Restored Kingdom of Israel. The false prophets of Israel will be 'cut off' 'in one day'. In other words, like Satan and the 'beast', who fall from power upon Armageddon, so will Israel's 'false prophets', fall from power upon Armageddon. Jesus will Rule the New Jerusalem through His Church. Christ's Church is the Catholic Church. Jesus, through His Authority in His Church, engaged over Israel and the whole world upon Armageddon, will be the 'new heart' of the 'new Jerusalem'.

EZE 11 Continued:While I was prophesying, Pelatiah, the son of Benaiah, died. I fell prone and cried out in a loud voice: “Alas, Lord GOD! will you utterly wipe out what remains of Israel?” Thus the word of the LORD came to me: Son of man, it is about your kinsmen, your fellow exiles, and the whole house of Israel that the inhabitants of Jerusalem say, “They are far away from the LORD; to us the land of Israel has been given as our possession.” Therefore say: Thus says the Lord GOD: Though I have removed them far among the nations and scattered them over foreign countries—and was for a while their only sanctuary in the countries to which they had gone—I will gather you from the nations and assemble you from the countries over which you have been scattered, and I will restore to you the land of Israel. They shall return to it and remove from it all its detestable abominations. I will give them a new heart and put a new spirit within them; I will remove the stony heart from their bodies, and replace it with a natural heart, so that they will live according to my statutes, and observe and carry out my ordinances; thus they shall be my people and I will be their God. But as for those whose hearts are devoted to their detestable abominations, I will bring down their conduct upon their heads, says the Lord GOD.

    Isaiah 9:13
So the LORD severs from Israel head and tail, palm branch and reed in one day. (The elder and the noble are the head, the prophet who teaches falsehood is the tail.) The leaders of this people mislead them and those to be led are engulfed.

    Matthew 21:33
“Hear another parable. There was a landowner who planted a vineyard, put a hedge around it, dug a wine press in it, and built a tower. Then he leased it to tenants and went on a journey. When vintage time drew near, he sent his servants to the tenants to obtain his produce. But the tenants seized the servants and one they beat, another they killed, and a third they stoned. Again he sent other servants, more numerous than the first ones, but they treated them in the same way. Finally, he sent his son to them, thinking, ‘They will respect my son.’ But when the tenants saw the son, they said to one another, ‘This is the heir. Come, let us kill him and acquire his inheritance.’ They seized him, threw him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What will the owner of the vineyard do to those tenants when he comes?” They answered him, “He will put those wretched men to a wretched death and lease his vineyard to other tenants who will give him the produce at the proper times.” Jesus said to them, “Did you never read in the scriptures:

‘The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone; by the Lord has this been done, and it is wonderful in our eyes’?

Therefore, I say to you, the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people that will produce its fruit. (The one who falls on this stone will be dashed to pieces; and it will crush anyone on whom it falls.)” When the chief priests and the Pharisees heard his parables, they knew that he was speaking about them. And although they were attempting to arrest him, they feared the crowds, for they regarded him as a prophet.

    Matthew 9:16
No one patches an old cloak with a piece of unshrunken cloth, for its fullness pulls away from the cloak and the tear gets worse. People do not put new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise the skins burst, the wine spills out, and the skins are ruined. Rather, they pour new wine into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved.”

    Isaiah 22:20
On that day I will summon my servant Eliakim, son of Hilkiah; I will clothe him with your robe, and gird him with your sash, and give over to him your authority. He shall be a father to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and to the house of Judah. I will place the key of the House of David on his shoulder; when he opens, no one shall shut, when he shuts, no one shall open. I will fix him like a peg in a sure spot, to be a place of honor for his family; On him shall hang all the glory of his family: descendants and offspring, all the little dishes, from bowls to jugs. On that day, says the LORD of hosts, the peg fixed in a sure spot shall give way, break off and fall, and the weight that hung on it shall be done away with; for the LORD has spoken.

    Isaiah 9:1
The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; Upon those who dwelt in the land of gloom a light has shone. You have brought them abundant joy and great rejoicing, As they rejoice before you as at the harvest, as men make merry when dividing spoils. For the yoke that burdened them, the pole on their shoulder, And the rod of their taskmaster you have smashed, as on the day of Midian. For every boot that tramped in battle, every cloak rolled in blood, will be burned as fuel for flames. For a child is born to us, a son is given us; upon his shoulder dominion rests. They name him Wonder-Counselor, God-Hero, Father-Forever, Prince of Peace. His dominion is vast and forever peaceful, From David’s throne, and over his kingdom, which he confirms and sustains By judgment and justice, both now and forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this! The Lord has sent word against Jacob, it falls upon Israel; And all the people know it, Ephraim and those who dwell in Samaria, those who say in arrogance and pride of heart, “Bricks have fallen, but we will build with cut stone; Sycamores are felled, but we will replace them with cedars.” But the LORD raises up their foes against them and stirs up their enemies to action: Aram on the east and the Philistines on the west devour Israel with open mouth. For all this, his wrath is not turned back, and his hand is still outstretched! The people do not turn to him who struck them, nor seek the LORD of hosts. So the LORD severs from Israel head and tail, palm branch and reed in one day.

    Luke 19:38
They proclaimed: “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord. Peace in heaven and glory in the highest.” Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.” He said in reply, “I tell you, if they keep silent, the stones will cry out!”As he drew near, he saw the city and wept over it, saying, “If this day you only knew what makes for peace—but now it is hidden from your eyes. For the days are coming upon you when your enemies will raise a palisade against you; they will encircle you and hem you in on all sides. They will smash you to the ground and your children within you, and they will not leave one stone upon another within you because you did not recognize the time of your visitation.”

Then Jesus entered the temple area and proceeded to drive out those who were selling things, saying to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be a house of prayer, but you have made it a den of thieves.’” And every day he was teaching in the temple area. The chief priests, the scribes, and the leaders of the people, meanwhile, were seeking to put him to death, but they could find no way to accomplish their purpose because all the people were hanging on his words.
