Why, oh Why, do Christian Forums always attract weirdos?

I am on 3 Christian forums. I was on a few others. And I find good people here. But there are also these people who espouse strange, fringe, unsupportable theories. They hijack serious threads with strange ideas and people refuse to discuss things when they show up.

Being a Christian, I am commanded to support the weak. But I am also to rebuke fools. I try to, but lose my cool.

The ignore feature here is pretty effective. I mostly use it because I know I'm going to start getting too critical with whomever. I would imagine for some though it's an opportunity to minister. Maybe I should start looking at it that way. Then again Titus 3:9?

Yes,
I am on a small forum. Once guy comes in and starts multiple threads about geocentrism.

2. I am on another forum, and this one guy keeps trying to convince everyone that Jesus died twice for our sins.

That's the current world we live in. One with a 1,001 competing perspectives.

I wish it wasn't that way, but ... here we are----one big unhappy family!

I can relate to your post. I started visiting forums about 6 years ago, and found myself in regular battle with many posters. Became very distressing and no fun.

Since that time, I have learned that it is impossible to convince people of anything true if they are blinded by their falsities. This is especially valid for those calling themselves “christians”, although their comments show the exact opposite.

I would post a list of relevant verses (specifically “red” words), and they were always ignored and the poster would simply reiterate their single verse, with their misunderstood view of it, without comment on my post.

Best thing to do, just do not engage these types when you perceive their true character.

You think this is bad, the Hindus have a thousand gods.

I have read about predestination, the Book of Mormon, infallibility of scriptures, did Jesus have a wife? pretrib vs. post trib rapture, etc. Other times I read things of greater importance to me and praised God.

Sometimes it is better not to converse with a habitual liar, even in writing.

I think people post about fringe beliefs because they can and people will read it. They likely feel they are doing a good service for whatever they consider their higher power. If they are lucky, someone will respond and they can feel good for their idea getting some attention.

I guess that's why some do anyway but everybody has their own motivation for posting. Some are just trolls trying to play games with people for entertainment..

Hmm on all the ones I am there is only one that stands out then the rest Sure some doctrines, theories can be out there but praise God the Father of our lord Jesus CHRIST AMEN! I like it. You might be shocked at the people God uses..its not the ones we would use or pick. I have on any forum never blocked banned anyone. If I don't care for the thread I skip it if someone takes it off track I just go back on track.

I don't block or ban people either, only one type of person, and those I would just report. The ones who are trolling for inappropriate relationships.

I think it's just that the nature of a forum is that you overhear more conversations than is possible in person, and more easily become aware of what people think.

Then again, I've been here a long time so there must be something going on.
