  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Why nits?

My 8 year old, a small devout Christian boy, asked me the following question:

'Mummy, why did God create nits?'

I don't know if they are nits all around the world so let me clarify- nit is a UK term for hair lice, cooties.

I couldn't answer him.

But I did think that I was lucky he chose nits. What if he had chosen a nasty bacterium, or tapeworm, or other debilitating internal parasite.

I do know that it says in Genesis that when God looked at the stuff He created he called it 'good'. Debilitating internal parasites are not good. Therefore God can't have created them. Or did he? Or who did? Did more creatures get created after the fall, bad ones? Or did the 'come into being' ?

I thought only god could create?

The fall is an idea for explaining why we get parasites and birth defects and congenital illnesses and such, but remember, there are some pretty aweful parasites that infest only other animals( often exclusively living on one species), I don't think animals had their own fall did they? Or are they paying for our mistake?

Man is basicly in a fallen state and all of creation reflects that. When God restores mankind, then all of creation will be restored also.

Romans 8:19-22
For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. [20] For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; [21] because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. [22] For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now.

Isaiah 11:6
"The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb,
The leopard shall lie down with the young goat,
The calf and the young lion and the fatling together;
And a little child shall lead them.

It may be a bit off topic, but here is an interesting Tale of Two Nitties: http://www.corante.com/loom/archives/026325.html. It describes how two species of lice that use humans as a host nicely parallel human evolution and migration.

If I were to answer him? I'd tell him that God created life and life IS good. It just so happens that for some life to survive it has evolved to take from other life. Just because some forms of life are inconvenient or gross to us doesn't mean that they aren't good in their own way.

So often we speak from our own perspectives when trying to understand God's...
