Christian Killings In America: Oregon College Shooting Victim's Father Alleges Attacker's Religious Bias
oregon-college-shooting-sign.jpg

The shooter who gunned downed nine people Thursday at an Oregon community college this week made a chilling request before he opened fire. He reportedly told students who had dropped to a classroom floor to stand up if they were Christians.

To those who stood, the gunman said, “Good. Because you're a Christian, you're going to see God in just about one second.” That account was given by the father of Anastasia Boylan, a student at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon, who claimed the shooter singled out Christians during the massacre that left both fatalities and multiple people injured. Boylan was among the injured and survived the shooting by playing dead, CNN reported.

Religious Persecution in America: Christians Executed Because They Were Christian
Posted On Oct 02 2015

Christian persecution is a way of life in Syria and other dark places the Middle East, Africa, and Asia but most Americans couldn’t point to Iran, Iraq or Syria on a map to save their souls.

From the comfort of our living rooms we watch Christians burned alive, crucified, beheaded, enslaved, raped. We’ve checked Drudge to find horrific pictures of beheadings in places half a world away. We’ve even tweeted to save Christian girls from their Muslim abusers and rapists. And we’ve heard the chants of “death to America” from fuzzy-faced, turbaned, muumuu-wearing Imams. They’re the stuff of late night humor.

Now it’s here. America has become Syria.

At an American community college campus, a gunman targeted and executed Christians with bullets in their heads not because of their race or their gender but because they were Christians:

“A 26-year-old gunman singled out Christians for slaughter during a rampage at an Oregon community college Thursday, leaving at least 9 people dead and many more wounded, survivors and authorities said.

“The shooter was lining people up and asking if they were Christian,” tweeted “@bodhilooney,” . . .“If they said yes, then they were shot in the head. If they said no, or didn’t answer, they were shot in the legs.” [Full Article @ Politichicks]

Those who equate the "plight" of Christians in the USA today to real, historical, persecution of Christians... wow... just.... wow...

are you trying to suggest that having a stage erected outside the jail and being fawned over by adoring cheering fans and having politicians and religious organizations support and applaud and financially support you is not real Christian persecution ?

People love their imagry don't they. Christian's in America are so pampered they wouldn't know real persecution if it was right infront of them.

It boggles my mind, they can read in their own Bibles what real persecution was, they don't have to watch evil TV to see it in the rest of the world.

The trouble is that what is happening is inconveniently out of their comfort zone and as a group who has had their cake and have been able to eat it for such a long time, their feel quite put out by the inconvenience of dealing with other peoples desires. Personally, I'd like to see how teleport a few over to Syria or Iraq and have them see what real persecution is like.

This drama-filled meltdown because of not having dominion over public policy is galling to me.

Part of the problem for American Christians is: in the Bible it says Christians will suffer persecution, and because we don't face any here we have to make up some faux persecution in order to not feel we're failing some how?
tulc(thinks that explains a lot about these situations) :wave:

I think that is very likely. I count myself blessed for living in such a land, and I personally do not look for things to be offended by in the name of Christianity.

I think it is more along the lines of the religious community embracing the victim mentality that seems to be running rampant in America. This country is finding out what it's like to not reach the level we thought we should be, because of the hype that has been fed to us.

Well let's see now. The father of a victim who related what transpired at the school. Versus an atheist perspective at Patheos who calls it all a lie, in 'friendly atheist' terms.

Persecution enabling myth. Thank you again.
frosty-smiley-emoticon.gif

My Christian sisters and brothers, pay attention to the tenor , the atmosphere , that is cultivated in this thread toward the topic of Christian persecution.
When the first lie arrives, that anyone here has equated Christian persecution to that which is happening in other countries, realize that is indeed how it starts.

What was actually stated is just that. That what is happening in America, with the contempt, mockery, that is delivered as verbal assaults against all Christians is a sign of no respect for Christians, that's how it starts.
When we read headlines about Christian children in our tax funded schools being singled out for reading their Bibles, praying over their meals, that's how it starts.

When we read someone interject the idea of persecution enabling myth, sound that term out to get the full impact of what is intended to be delivered behind it, a verbal assault that dismisses every incident wherein a Christian has been singled out, or killed, for being Christian.

That is how it starts.
No one here equated Christian persecution in America to that of Christians overseas. No one.

What was said, and it is key that that was ignored and the lie took its place so as to generate the launch of contempt from that falsehood so as to invite others to interject their contentions that denigrate such a claim as what was falsely claimed to have been stated, is how it starts!

What we witness overseas in Christian persecution and execution had its start making Christianity and Christians dispensable, the enemy,worthy targets of ridicule, ranker, hatred, oppression, laws limiting practice, expression. That's how it starts.

You see people who respect Christians in their own house (community) don't make jokes about Christians being slaughtered and oppressed in their own country.

...sorry, I'm not real sure what you're saying here, can you explain?

That is how it starts.
I'm sorry, I thought we were dealing with something that was an on going thing now. Was I wrong?

No one here equated Christian persecution in America to that of Christians overseas. No one.
That's good, then maybe we need another word other then "persecuted" because when Christians in America claim they're being persecuted I always think of the parts of the Church that face actual persecution and can't see any similarities at all. American Christian "persecution" sounds a lot more like "I didn't get to do what I wanted!"

What was said, and it is key that that was ignored and the lie took its place so as to generate the launch of contempt from that falsehood so as to invite others to interject their contentions that denigrate such a claim as what was falsely claimed to have been stated, is how it starts!

So far it hasn't been shown this had anything to do with being Christian. And if we're looking for the truth here, no one was making fun of the people who were killed, it was pointing out how some Christians are trying to co-opt a tragedy to push their myth of Christian "persecution" in America.
tulc(thinks that needs to be pointed out when it rears it's head) :wave:

If anyone remembers the popular Martin Niemoller piece.

First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out - because I was not a communist;
Then they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out - because I was not a socialist;
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out - because I was not a trade unionist;
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out - because I was not a Jew;
Then they came for me - and there was no one left to speak out for me.

I happened on this. Author unknown.

First they took out prayer in public school.
But I wasn't worried because I didn't pray.

Then they allowed us to choose to kill our babies in our own womb. And I felt liberated because I believe life is choice.

Then they said we weren't allowed to read our Bibles in school. But I wasn't worried because I was atheist and didn't own a Bible.

Then they said they would kill us if we chose to commit a capital crime. But I wasn't worried because I'm not a murderer.

Then they told us we couldn't pray over our meals in the lunchroom at work, because it could offend those who work too but don't pray.

I wasn't worried because I don't pray but I do like my job.And besides religion is just fable and fear so who cares?

Then they said my sisters child couldn't pray over her meal in public school. I wasn't worried because she's not my kid.

Then they legalised transsexual children being allowed to claim they felt like the opposite sex, and enter into my nieces private girl labeled public school bathrooms and the locker room.
But I wasn't worried because she's my sisters daughter and her responsibility.

Then they legalised same sex marriage and called gays equal to me and my husband. I wasn't worried because I don't know any gay people.
Then they said religious people couldn't have a conscientious objection to accommodating gays if the religious were in business. I wasn't worried because I'm not gay.

Then they told my niece that at graduation she couldn't thank God. But I wasn't worried because she could thank her parents and it's not this atheists business.

Then a friend told me that SCOTUS had decided that my atheism qualified as a religion with first amendment rights.
And I realized all those things happening to the Christian religious could happen to me.

Yes I remember it. I also researched much of what happened during that time, because i wanted to know the face of Evil, so i could recognize it when I saw it.

To even consider using that instance in this case is absurd beyond measure. It's like attempting to equate the Atomic bombing of Hiroshima to an ant fart.
