I think this trend of being horrified by rock music will fade away as the current senior generations begin to pass on...

It's happened for at least three generations, I see no reason for it to suddenly stop.

Well, I don't know what your idea of a generation is, but I was speaking about our parents and grandparents. I don't agree that it's been going on for three generations. Rock music has only been around for the past 50 years- give or take a few.

The first generation to be outraged by rock music was the generation of my grand-parents. The "Greatest Generation", as they are sometimes referred to. That outrage decreased dramatically as their children, the "Baby Boomers", grew up and had children, of which I am one. And, as my friends raise their own children- some of which are nearly into adolescence-, I see even less outrage than our parents displayed over the music their kids listen to.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not claiming this is universally true. There are exceptions in each generation, but, by-and-large, the horror and outrage over rock & roll is diminishing as each generation passes on.

I didn't say it'll "suddenly stop". I said it will "fade away". There's a difference...

I just think it'll be displaced by some other genre of rock music. First the outrage was rock itself, which was largely the Jazz Generation (great-grandparents for many people). Then it was psychedelic rock for our grandparents. Our parents' generation was divided on the issue of metal - some embraced it, based on growing up with Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple, etc. - and some abhored it, based on a variety of different unsubstantiated claims that their parents and their parents had made about music they didn't like.

Our generation just hasn't found something to near-unanimously hate yet. I expect we won't until we have kids and/or they start becoming teenagers.

It's been around since at least early Jazz (or more), so nearly 100 years now.

"A few years" is pretty sudden when you're talking about a century.
